Manchin says he has no intention of leaving Democratic Party
Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) said Monday that he has no intention of leaving the Democratic Party to become an independent after fellow centrist Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (I-Ariz.) announced last week that she would no longer identify as a Democrat.
Manchin, however, declined to rule out changing his party affiliation at some point in the future.

Jack Dorsey Takes Blame for Twitter Failures, Will Give $1 Million to Signal
Twitter Founder Jack Dorsey took the blame for Twitter’s controversial content decisions that the platform made under his leadership, while warning of content control by governments and corporations.
Dorsey started the statement in a Twitter thread but moved it to a blog post, explaining, “I don’t want to edit everything into 280 char chunks.” The founder said that he hoped to build a Twitter that was based on principles he had learned through his “past actions as a Twitter co-founder,” but that he “completely gave up pushing for those ideas after an “activist entered our stock in 2020.”

Hochul taps LaSalle to lead NY courts; will he pass muster with Senate progressives?
Hector D. LaSalle, currently presiding justice of New York Supreme Court's Second Department, is Gov. Kathy Hochul's choice to be the next chief judge of the New York State Court of Appeals, New York's highest court. In that role, LaSalle would oversee the state's entire judiciary branch.
The appointment comes after Janet DiFiore retired from the chief judge spot in August. At 66, the former Westchester County district attorney could have stayed in the top job until 2025. DiFiore had repeatedly denied reports that her decision to leave early had anything to do with a reported probe by the state Commission on Judicial Conduct.

KS lawmaker behind “In God We Trust” bill found guilty of COVID Relief Fraud
Michael Capps, a former Kansas lawmaker who once sponsored a bill to put the words “In God We Trust” in every federal building, has been found guilty of committing COVID relief fraud and money laundering.
His career wasn’t supposed to end this way. In 2018, the Republican was appointed to the Kansas State House and won his own election bid later that year. Like other members of his party, he used his time in office to push Christianity on everyone. That’s why, in addition to his anti-trans and anti-abortion bills, Capps sponsored a bill to put “In God We Trust” in public buildings, including public schools.

3 police officers near Times Square injured in machete attack on New Year's Eve: Officials
An "unprovoked" machete attack on three New York City police officers near Times Square on New Year's Eve is being investigated as a possible terrorist incident. The suspect is allegedly a 19-year-old man from Maine, whose online posts indicate recent Islamic radicalization, sources told ABC News.
Investigators are looking into whether the suspect came to the annual ball drop specifically to wage an attack on law enforcement, the sources said.

AG: Meadows won’t face voter fraud charges in North Carolina
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — Mark Meadows, the former White House chief of staff to President Donald Trump, won’t face voter fraud charges related to his 2020 registration and absentee vote in North Carolina, the state’s attorney general announced Friday.
Meadows, a former western North Carolina congressman who worked for Trump during his final months in the Oval Office, was an outspoken proponent of the ex-president’s baseless claims that the 2020 presidential election was stolen from him. Meadows drew the attention of government attorneys when details that he was simultaneously registered to vote in North Carolina and two other states surfaced.

TOPLINE President Joe Biden arrived in El Paso on Sunday for his first visit to the U.S.-Mexico border, and Texas Gov. Abbott shook hands with Biden after he deboarded Air Force One, then handed Biden a letter in which he accused him of avoiding “sites where mass illegal immigration occurs” and violating his “constitutional obligation to defend the States against invasion.”

GOP election tactics no surprise to Wisconsin’s Black voters
MILWAUKEE (AP) — Recent revelations about Republican election strategies targeting minority communities in Wisconsin’s biggest city came as no surprise to many Black voters.
A Wisconsin election commissioner bragged about low turnout in predominantly Black and Latino neighborhoods during last year’s elections. Weeks later, an audio recording surfaced that showed then-President Donald Trump’s Wisconsin campaign team laughing behind closed doors about efforts to reach Black voters in 2020.

Theatergoers waiting to see the sold-out first preview of a classic Broadway musical Tuesday were interrupted by neo-Nazis chanting, holding banners and passing out false information about the show's subject.
The group was identified by the musical's producers as the National Socialist Movement. The group is the largest membership-based neo-Nazi group in the United States and is known for "violent antisemitic rhetoric" and "its racist views," according to the Southern Poverty Law Center.

Yes this is what the GOP is.
Death is the New Republican Badge of Honor
In his State of the Union address, President Biden noted:
“So, some of my Republican friends want to take the economy hostage — I get it — unless I agree to their economic plans. All of you at home should know what those plans are.
“Instead of making the wealthy pay their fair share, some Republicans — some Republicans want Medicare and Social Security to sunset. I’m not saying it’s a majority —”
At which point Republicans in the audience started shouting, booing, stomping their feet, and yelling, “Liar!”

I used to like the Dilbert cartoon and the way it made fun of corporate cubicle culture.
But then I heard Scott Adams was a Trumper in 2016 (still is). And now, this.
Fully Unhinged ‘Dilbert’ Guy Tells White People to ‘Get the Fuck Away’ From Black People
MASK ALL THE WAY OFF
“I don’t think it makes any sense as a white citizen of America to try to help Black citizens anymore,” the pro-Trump cartoonist said, adding: “This can’t be fixed.”

Pro-Trump cartoonist Scott Adams pulled the mask all the way off this week, declaring on his podcast that white people should “get the hell away from Black people” while labeling African-Americans as a “hate group.”
Adams, who has written the satirical office comic strip Dilbert for more than three decades, said during his Coffee with Scott Adams online video program that current polling proves that there is “no fixing” the current racial tension in America and that whites should live in largely segregated neighborhoods.
Citing a recent Rasmussen survey showing 53 percent of Black people agree with the phrase “It’s okay to be white,” which the Anti-Defamation League has deemed a hate slogan, Adams said on Wednesday that this was the “first political poll that ever changed my activities” while launching into an overtly racist rant.
“I’ve been identifying as Black for a while because I like to be on the winning team,” the right-wing culture warrior sarcastically noted. “And I like to help. I always thought if you help the Black community, that’s sort of the biggest lever, you could find the biggest benefit.”

Republicans sure love controlling how everyone else is allowed to live. Who votes for this unconstitutional, fascist bullshit?

Tennessee lawmakers passed a bill banning drag shows in public on Thursday, sending the measure to the Republican Governor Bill Lee’s desk.
The law would make Tennessee the first state to ban public drag, which could also affect LGBTQ+ pride celebrations and transgender people who are in shows of any kind. There are currently 20 bills in 15 US states aimed at drag queen performances.

It’s insane. Wonder if they’ll show up at someone’s house if they stream “Tootsie”.
Or arrest everyone if they perform Twelfth Night at Shakespeare in the Park?
Spoiler for our conservatives - since I’m sure none of you have ever been to a Shakespeare play - in Twelfth Night, one of the female characters pretends to be a man.
This is just insanity of the right. And Glenn will be completely on board, while pretending he’s 99% with us on gay rights. Hah!
I mean, back in high school we had drag in our school plays. There’s nothing wrong with it.
But our conservatives thinks it’s evil and should be banned nationally.

So should Tootsie be removed from the airwaves? or The Birdcage?
You SAY you support LGBTQ+ rights - but you obviously do not. You want this real witch hunt. Let's be clear: In the case of the Tennessee bill, they can go after ANYTHING. But you truly think that cross-dressing is a horror no child should see, don't you?
