Although it was fictionalized, it was a true-ish account of a new type of rescue worker. Used to be, they had ambulance drivers. They would pick up a victim, no matter what condition, and take them to the hospital. Didn't do anything for them. They would often die on the way there. They were not trained for, nor did they offer, any medical care at all on the way.

Doctors realized that a lot of people that might have been saved by some medical care on the way were dying needlessly. So they gave some firemen training in basic first aid care and use of machinery to save people. They would radio vitals to the hospital, where a doctor would tell them what to do.

Thus we got paramedics. A system that is important to this day.

So, what if we did the same thing, train people in social science as well as policing, thus a new hybrid of cop/social worker who is trained to deal in such situations? Yes, they'd be an armed officer, but not a fucking storm trooper as cops are now, someone who is a problem solver who can de-escalate a situation instead of bragging about how many asses they got to kick on duty today?

The right pretends this MUST be an either-or thing, and it doesn't. We just have to approach the situation as adults that can solve problems.

Okay. Do you have any comment germane to the discussion?

100% percent i was onboard, and then ya lost me here.....
but not a fucking storm trooper as cops are now
The rest, i've been advocating for for the longest time now.
Keep in mind, both paramedics and firefighters will not enter certain situations unless first cleared/secured by the police.

I noticed that the part which lost you was a gross stereotype.

Reminded me of the Rambo, imagine ALL of the cops being just like the movie Rambo.

No, what’s frustrating is the number of black people murdered by cops because of their skin color.

That does not frustrate Sam Lefthand or bradman.

 sure, I don't get it, sure.

This issue affects me directly, unlike you who reads about it on the internet. But according to your misogynoir attitudes, I'm the last person to get it.

When your best reference is a movie, you're not in any position to determine who does and who does not get it.

I'm trying to decide which was my favorite parody of that film. It can't be Hot Shots Part Deux as that had Charlie Sheen in it.

I'm going to have to go with UHF, which starred Weird Al Yankovic as "Rando".

After a while, I guess the films themselves became self-parodying.

No, you tell me, what's an acceptable number of blacks murdered by cops? How many George Floyds are good with you?

And how much mistreatment because of skin color is good with you? How many treated like Lt. Caron Nazario?

This is the thing with conservatives like you - it's all fine with you. No problems here.

https://www.statista.com/statistics/585 ... e-by-race/

In 2020, the number was 241. (Shot to death, not just shot.)

In 2020, the number of whites shot to death was 457.

Now, yes, gee whiz, Horatio they shot to death more white people. However ... as African-Americans are only 12% of the population and whites (depending on how you count "Hispanics") around 60% ... I think my calculator suggests something disproportionate.

Pretend Democrat questions whether or not Black people are more targeted by police than white people?

No surprise.
I sigh in your general direction.

It’s a little more complicated. 330,000,000 people, 700,000 members of law enforcement, 60,000,000 police interactions. The interaction proportions are higher in minorities because the minorities request interactions at a higher proportion. So 698 fatalities, many unavoidable, many suicide by cop, as compared to the additional data provided says that the police are not racist storm troopers hell bent on shooting minorities. The police don’t salivate at the opportunity. The numbers say restraint. There are bad actors that need to be replaced. Sure. Normal people don’t automatically infer bad behavior on an entire group because of the occasional bad actor. The police aren’t a threat to kill people.

Source?
So 698 fatalities, many unavoidable, many suicide by cop,
a) "many" is a vague, unqualified descriptor.
b) source?

I wasn't making any inferences. I was presenting data. You drew what inferences you chose to draw from it.

I posted a govt study somewhere that has the data.

We have other posters with idiotic views of the police. Wasn’t targeting you. Just the data inadequacy.

Like George Floyd was suicide by cop?

When cops escalate instead of de-escalate, is it then unavoidable?

Cops do what they WANT to do, because they know their unions will get them off, no matter WHAT they do.

Since the entire group works together to keep murderers from being held accountable, the entire group is responsible.

So tell me how the Police weren't a threat to kill George Floyd. All the cops on the scene worked together to make it happen, without remorse, in front of a large public who was videotaping them. Didn't bother them at all.

What about the cops that pepper-sprayed Army Lt. Caron Nazario, as well as pointing a gun at him and threatened to murder him? Were they a threat to kill people?

You’re one off the idiots that take a few bad actors and label the entire group. 60,000,000 interactions between police and people. 698 fatalities. The police are not a threat.

You can't respond. You couldn't actually rebut what I wrote.

So how many murders do you want BEFORE the police are a threat to black people?

Right?
