I did something about it. I found another gig. It's so off the charts that the Wall Street and Midtown types haven't even heard of it. That's a plus in the media game.

It was a relic cable channel anyway
The End of MTV… Paramount is Thinking About Shutting Down All Remaining MTV Channels
Paramount Global is reportedly contemplating potentially shutter all remaining MTV channels and transition the iconic MTV brand into a streaming-only platform, according to a recent report from the New York Post. This move would mark a dramatic pivot for a brand that has defined music television and pop culture for over four decades, reflecting broader industry trends toward digital platforms and away from traditional cable broadcasting. This comes as MTV is shutting down its remaining meusic only channels left in the UK.
MTV, launched in 1981, revolutionized the entertainment landscape by introducing music videos as a cultural staple, giving rise to artists and shaping youth culture worldwide. Over the years, the network expanded into reality television, scripted programming, and other formats, but its influence has waned in recent years as streaming services dominate media consumption. The New York Post report indicates that Paramount executives are now seriously evaluating whether maintaining linear MTV channels is sustainable in an era where audiences increasingly favor on-demand content.

MTV might have revolutionized the music industry, but it ruined the music. A lot of people agree with me. It turned an auditory medium into an audio-visual one, and the pictures became more important than the music. It killed rock stone cold dead.

Bari Weiss is eyeing Fox News star Bret Baier and CNN’s Anderson Cooper for ‘CBS Evening News’ anchor chair
Looking to make a splash during her first few weeks as CBS News’ editor-in-chief, Bari Weiss has been eyeing a few big names to potentially helm the network’s flagship evening program – including Fox News chief political anchor Bret Baier, two sources familiar with the matter told The Independent.
Weiss’ interest in poaching Baier from Fox News to lead CBS Evening News was first reported by Status News.

CBS News Cuts ‘Evening News,’ ‘Mornings’ Streaming Shows in Newsroom-Wide Layoffs
CBS News eliminated multiple streaming programs on Wednesday as part of newsroom-wide layoffs, just one part of Paramount’s sweeping job cuts and a blow to the news organization’s headcount as Bari Weiss’ already turbulent tenure as editor in chief gets into full swing.
It was not immediately clear how many people were affected, though some reports pegged the figure at nearly 100 jobs. The cuts affected CBS News’ streaming companion shows to “CBS Mornings” and “CBS Evening News,” both of which were canceled, according to a source familiar with the matter. Its Johannesburg bureau is also closing, and CBS News has disbanded its race and culture unit (though the unit’s head, Alvin Patrick, remains on staff).

Like you said Z we lost The Media Wars & control since the elimination of The Fairness Doctrine & the rise of The Telecom Act we've completely failed & now with the rise of hate, phoniness, rising mergers & pay with online media that's on the downward trend as well unfortunately
Mainstream media is now mainly leaning right
Most traditional media have long held a more left-leaning tone, but that’s changing.
From on the ground reporting to the top executives, more conservative voices are making their way into the long-established outlets. Major changes may not be felt yet from those less involved in the media landscape, but let’s take a look at how these outlets might be making a shift to the right—and why.

Re: Media
I gave up when studios started calling themselves "Filmed Entertainment Divisions." Since then streaming has taken over and the situation has become even worse. Movies are all made to one of several formulas, and in TV the advertising tail wags the dog. Media was always a business first and an art second, but now there's no art at all. It's all business, and a business owned by ever fewer people.
I get dark visions of winding up with The Media Company, the way there used to be The Phone Company, and a situation similar to the bad old days of Ma Bell.

After backlash, Alabama Public Television will keep paying for PBS
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — Facing a public backlash, the commission that oversees Alabama Public Television voted Tuesday to continue paying its contract with PBS, rejecting an effort — at least for now — to be the first state to cut ties with the broadcast giant because of politics and federal budget cuts.
The Alabama Educational Television Commission voted without dissent to honor the contract with PBS that runs until July. The commission also voted to create a committee to explore the direction of Alabama Public Television. A motion to give the required 180-day nonrenewal notice, the first step to cutting ties with PBS, failed for lack of a second.

Elizabeth Warren Calls Out CBS Owner On His Own Network: 'One Man Named David Ellison'
Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) on Friday stopped by “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” on CBS and had no problem calling out Paramount Skydance CEO David Ellison, whose company recently acquired the very network she was appearing on.
The name drop came after Colbert thanked Warren for the “honor” of dressing her dog as him for Halloween this year. The senator noted that “there’s a reason” she and her golden retriever Bailey had picked that particular costume.

The White House launched a page on its website Friday devoted to naming and shaming media outlets and reporters that publish stories it disagrees with.
“Misleading. Biased. CBS News delays 60 Minutes segment on El Salvador’s Cecot megaprison
CBS News is facing a backlash, including from one of its own correspondents, after it cancelled a 60 Minutes investigation into a brutal prison in El Salvador where the Trump administration has deported hundreds of migrants.
The episode of its flagship program about the Cecot mega-prison was due to air on Sunday night. However, in an “editor’s note” posted on X, the broadcaster’s official account announced that “the lineup for tonight’s edition of 60 Minutes has been updated. Our report ‘Inside Cecot’ will air in a future broadcast.”

WATCH: The 60 Minutes CECOT Segment
The segment apparently aired on Canada’s Global TV app and was shared by this Bluesky user jasonparis.bsky.social. You can watch the entire segment below! Please share widely!
Bari Weiss at CBS claims this segment was spiked for editorial reasons and not political reasons, however, there are portions of this video that would indicate otherwise.

Cancel Culture’s Boomerang Effect
On Sunday night Bari Weiss, the editor of The Free Press and the new head of CBS News, abruptly stopped a forthcoming 60 Minutes report on the torture endured by migrants in the brutal El Salvadoran prison CECOT, where the Trump administration has sent more than 280 men.
Trump supporters praised the decision from Weiss, who, notwithstanding her description of conditions at CECOT as “horrific,” had previously praised El Salvadoran leader Nayib Bukele for making El Salvador safer. More broadly, the whole affair neatly encapsulates the bizarre anti-free-speech free-speech discourse of the past decade, the purpose of which has been to justify restricting any speech that conservatives disapprove of while framing liberal censoriousness as equivalent to state censorship.

Re: Media
The best thing in that clip is the title. "Cancel Culture" is becoming a meaningless term in itself because it's being used, including here, to refer to a process that is essentially liberals behaving badly. In the beginning, the term referred to a real danger of text-based, context-impaired, Internet interaction, where one slip of the online "lip" would activate the self-appointed Language Police. People would repost/retweet in a gathering hurricane of decontextualized chatter, after which you would potentially be looking for another job, and at a minimum probably be seeking new friends. It happened, more often than you think.
I always thought that canceling would help the conservative side, because it would threaten job security for reasons that were often bordering on frivolous. I was right. The cons are running with it, to aid in their attempt to make "liberal" a dirty word.
I always said don't cancel, it helps the other side. I still say it. Knock off that shit. Do it in e-mail. "Did you REALLY intend to say that?"

Corporation for Public Broadcasting Officially Votes to Disband
After 58 years of service to the American public, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting Board of Directors has formally voted to dissolve the organization. The decision follows Congress’s decision to rescind all federal funding at the behest of President Trump.
The CPB Board determined that continuing as an unfunded entity would not serve the public interest and could expose the organization to political misuse or legal risk. Instead, CPB will conduct an orderly closure, distributing remaining funds in alignment with congressional intent and preserving its archives through partnerships with the American Archive of Public Broadcasting and the University of Maryland.

The Dokoupil Debacle
On Tuesday evening, newly installed "CBS Evening News" anchor Tony Dokoupil closed out just his second official broadcast with a surreal segment: a glowing tribute to Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Kicking off his “Live from America” tour with a broadcast from Miami, Dokoupil ran through Rubio’s ever-expanding portfolio as one of Donald Trump’s closest confidants. Then, in an attempt to create a lighthearted moment, the broadcast aired a montage of A.I.-generated memes depicting Rubio in a variety of imagined roles—including as the head of Hilton Hotels.
“Marco Rubio, we salute you,” Dokoupil declared. “You are the ultimate Florida man.”

Go ahead and watch the entertainment industry give awards to itself, but that's the only popular show left in LA. Stars being stars, getting shiny statuettes for work that ever fewer people will see.
The rest of the time, it's all about the money, just like everything else. The real action is in mergers and acquisitions, and the product is an afterthought.
It was a good ride in LA, but it's over.

FCC takes aim at political interviews on late-night and daytime shows
