N.M. officials say Alec Baldwin an 'active part' of accidental shooting inquiry

Oct. 27 (UPI) -- Authorities in New Mexico said in an update Wednesday that criminal charges are possible in the accidental shooting involving actor Alec Baldwin that killed a cinematographer and wounded the director of a western film during production last week.

New Mexico First Judicial District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies and Santa Fe County Sheriff Adan Mendoza presented preliminary findings from their investigation into the accident, which has shaken the film industry and brought focus on the safety of using real weapons on movie sets.

Supreme Court justices lean toward expanding right to carry a concealed gun in public

The Supreme Court's justices, citing the "right to bear arms" in the 2nd Amendment, sounded ready Wednesday to strike down laws in New York and California that deny most gun owners permits to carry concealed guns in public.

Most of the justices said people who live in "high-crime areas" and fear for their safety should be allowed to carry a gun for self defense. And they said this applies equally to people who live in cities as well as in rural areas

They just want a blanket excuse for the police killings of innocent people. I think they are getting nervous about how unsustainable the status quo is and how volatile the wealth hoarding and inequality has made society. Its got to be scary to have put all their faith and hope in ill gotten wealth that is going to take ever growing amounts of force and violence to maintain and protect.

Federal lawsuit accuses NRA of making illegal campaign contributions through shell companies to Hawley, Trump, others

O’FALLON, Mo. (AP) — A federal lawsuit accuses the National Rifle Association of violating campaign finance laws by using shell companies to illegally funnel up to $35 million to Republican candidates, including former President Donald Trump, Sen. Josh Hawley of Missouri and others.

The Campaign Legal Center filed the lawsuit Tuesday in Washington on behalf of Giffords, a gun-control nonprofit founded by former Democratic U.S. Rep. Gabby Giffords. It accuses the NRA of practices dating to 2014 “to evade campaign finance regulations by using a series of shell corporations to illegally but surreptitiously coordinate advertising with at least seven candidates for federal office.”

Ever notice how the places with the strictest gun laws also seem to have the most gun crimes. Why it is almost like strict gun laws don't work.

That's an empirical claim, and should be sourced.

No I am not singling you out. I am doing it because it's a dubious empirical claim, and I want the see the source for it.

Also because I have seen research that shows otherwise ...

Please note one story from DC about shootings doesn't prove the claim. You need actual data that show comparisons.

Looking at the chart you posted, it looks like South Carolina, where glen lives, has the highest mass shootings in the nation. I wonder how glen reconciles that with his unfounded, un-sourced statement.

Well if its against the law to rob a liquor store in one place but not the other then yes it will result in more liquor store robbery crimes in one area than the other.

Oxford High School shooting: 3 killed, 8 hurt, 15-year-old in custody
......The shooting happened at 12:51 p.m. Tuesday (Nov. 30) in the section of the school where many history classes take place, Local 4 learned.

Police said they responded to the active shooting situation with multiple patrol and EMS units, along with SWAT and aviation units. The 15-year-old sophomore student was taken into custody within five minutes, according to authorities.

Police also recovered a handgun and found multiple spent shell casings.

A 16-year-old boy, a 14-year-old girl and a 17-year-old girl were killed, he said.

In addition, eight others were shot during the incident -- one teacher and seven students, according to officials. They were taken to McLaren Lapeer, McLaren Oakland and St. Joe’s in Pontiac for treatment.......
20th school shooting......since august and 28th of the year. semi-automatic handgun with multiple ammo clips what the police spokesman said in the interview at I think 3pm or somewhere close to that.

public keeps giving up resources and powers and money to secure the schools against shooters but never are the kids secure, just more militarized. maybe need to guard against despair and access to semi-automatic weapons and hi capacity ammo clips.

Court upholds California ban on high-capacity magazines

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals overturned a ruling by two of its judges and upheld California’s ban on high-capacity magazines Tuesday in a split decision that may be headed for the U.S. Supreme Court.

“The statute outlaws no weapon, but only limits the size of the magazine that may be used with firearms,” the court said in the 7-4 ruling.
