Legislature repeals MinnesotaCare for undocumented adults
Despite Democratic-Farmer-Labor control of the state Senate, the governor’s office, and half of the House, Republicans forced Democrats to roll back one of their signature accomplishments from the 2023 legislative session: health care for undocumented people.

The Legislature passed a bill Monday to repeal undocumented adults’ eligibility for MinnesotaCare, the state-subsidized health insurance program for the working poor. DFL House caucus leader Melissa Hortman joined Republicans in the House to pass the bill. In the Senate, DFL Sens. Grant Hauschild of Hermantown, Ann Rest of New Hope, Robert Kupec of Moorhead and Majority Leader Erin Murphy of St. Paul also voted for the bill.

Undocumented children will still be eligible for MinnesotaCare when Gov. Tim Walz signs the bill into law, as promised.

.....The DFL pulled out all nearly of the stops to avoid cutting health care access for undocumented adults.

During negotiations, DFL leaders offered Republicans concessions related to paid leave, earned sick and safe time, and noncompete agreements — but Republicans didn’t budge, said Sen. Alice Mann, DFL-Edina.

“They turned all of those things down, because all they wanted…was to make sure that the 17,000 people were left out to die, that we worsen our health care system and that we decrease our tax revenue,” Mann said at a press conference Monday decrying the move.....
Rare to have this kind of tie eh with 67 republicans and 67 dfls and a power sharing agreement, if there is a middle its a middle that is oddly situated somewhere between right wing extremism, authoritarianism and a lesser version of the same. even rarer that a former workforce board member appointed by the last 2 governors assassinates a couple of legislators a few months into it.

Martin did some wonderful things for the DFL here. But like it or not, even here in the land of the DFL things have been going sideways.

Not quite sure where we are going with the perp being a workforce member and being appointed by two Democratic governors but will always be confused in comparing the two parties we have.

As far as i know one of the last tributes to Hortman today was an Indian tribe that thanked her for her work in their own language for the help they received from her.

How can that be the same as a lesser version?

Suspected killer of Minnesota lawmaker is a doomsday 'prepper' with 'bailout' plan
The man suspected of killing a Minnesota lawmaker and her husband in a brazen attack while dressed as a police officer is a doomsday "prepper" who set aside passports, guns and hordes of cash in the event of a catastrophe, newly unsealed federal court documents show.

Vance Boelter's wife relayed the doomsday plans after she was interviewed by police during a manhunt for Boelter after he allegedly shot four people on June 14, according to the complaint filed in U.S. District Court in Minnesota.....

Wonder if he had anything to do with Jill Sobule's death

Wayne church counseled suspected gunman, pastor says, as police release his identity
...CrossPointe Community Church Pastor Andy Pugh told The News on Monday that Browning had never threatened the church but appeared to be struggling with mental illness the few times he attended service in the past year. Pugh said church leaders were "trying to steer him better" and felt Browning was progressing before the shooting.

"There's no anger and hatred towards his family, and even towards him," Pugh said. "We know he's sick, and we're sorry that it had to end that way.".....

update
Two firefighters were killed and residents were ordered to shelter in place, but the order was lifted after police found a dead man in the woods.
A sniper armed with a high-powered rifle shot and killed two firefighters responding to a wildfire blaze in the Idaho Panhandle and seriously injured another, authorities said Sunday.

Kootenai County Sheriff officials said shortly before 11 p.m. ET, several hours after the attack, that officers have since found a dead man on the mountain with a firearm nearby. They did not provide other details about who the man was but a shelter-in-place order for local residents was lifted, suggesting a manhunt for a suspect was over......
Horrible and heinous as the attacks at the splash pad and the kids at the schools and the people at the grocery stores, the people at the parade, the people at the office buildings, the people at the medical places .... so many its hard to remember.

The New York shooter was a brain-damaged former football player, with a possible grudge against the NFL. He open-carried an assault rifle into the NFL management's building, but took the wrong elevator and now the theory is that he shot up the wrong office. Today's Nooz is full of pictures of brains.

A gunman who killed four people when he stormed a skyscraper in the heart of New York on Monday evening left a note that appeared to blame the National Football League (NFL) for a brain injury, the city's Mayor Eric Adams says.

The attacker, 27-year-old Shane Tamura of Las Vegas, shot himself dead after opening fire in a building where the American football league has its headquarters, but went to a different part of the building after taking the wrong lift.

The gunman was carrying a note in which he blamed CTE, a brain disease triggered by head trauma, for his mental illness, Adams said.

> Bang bang bang in central LA

Industrial zones are where rival gangs meet at late night warehouse parties. Shootings at these are a regular occurrence. Every couple of months, they manage to kill one another, and the Nooz runs with it.

KTLA has made a loyal audience by leading with every gross crime story that happens overnight in LA. That's always the first five minutes of their Nooz. Then they go straight from the body count to the weather, since everyone knows that's the best thing on TV. McCluhan said that, so it must be true. ;)
