The "Replacement Theory" and It's Role In Racial Violence.

Post by marindem01 »

With F * * * * * Carlson and Reich Wing Talking Heads touting the "Replacement Theory" of Minorities wanting to replace Whites, I figured it was about time to have thread on it.

First up, the deadly shooting in Buffalo yesterday. The shooter was had apparently embraced this Conspiracy and used it as part of his pre-text to shoot 10-People.

https://www.huffpost.com/entry/great-re ... dce650f749.

The suspect in the fatal shooting of 10 people at a Buffalo, New York, supermarket Saturday was reportedly haunted in his writing by the “great replacement” conspiracy theory — a viciously racist view of the world that has been touted by Fox News host Tucker Carlson and several other far-right personalities.

Payton S. Gendron, who is white, repeatedly returned to the conspiracy in his 180-page online manifesto that white Americans are at risk of being replaced by people of color by immigration, interracial marriage and eventually violence, The New York Times reported Saturday. Almost all of the victims in the mass shooting were Black.

Law Enforcement Authorities in Buffalo New York called the shooting racially based on the fact Gendron targeted Afican-Americans.

Gendron, 18, referred to “racial replacement” and “white genocide” in his writings, according to the Times. The first page included a symbol known as the sonnenrad, or black sun, which was once used by German Nazis but has been adopted by white supremacist neo-Nazis, according to the Anti-Defamation League.

In an interview on CNN Saturday night, Rep. Brian Higgins (D-N.Y.), who represents Buffalo, called the mass shooting part of a planned, “organized” effort to attack the minority community within an “element in our society that is blatantly racist, and they’re violent.”

The horrific crime “points to an effort to exact domestic terrorism that is racially motivated,” he added. “That threat to our community in Buffalo and western New York is a threat to the nation.”

Reich Wing Terrorism in on the rise, especially after the January 6, 2020 Insurrection at the U.S. Capitol in Washing

Attacks on African-Americans, Asian-American-Pacifican Islander Americans are up as well. Carlson and others have gone so far as to blame President Biden for shortage of Baby Formula, saying that Biden is withholding or sending infant formula to the border to feed undocumented babies at the expense of White Babies in this country. That is of course of a LIE.

One member of this forum says times have never been better for minorities, which I disagree with. Attacks on Women's Right To Choose, states passing banning education on sexual identity and some far right politicians calling buring books they do not approve of.

Not to mention the Reich Wing has exploded over Critical Race Theory (NOT taught Grade School) and they believe denying the bloody history of the U.S. regarding slavery and the genocide against Native Americans.

Fascism is on the move. Republicans embracing Russian Dictator and former Colonel in KGB Vladimir Putin.

The threat to American Democracy has never been greater.

We either stop Fascism now, or we lose our country.

Supermarket Shooter Sought Black Neighborhood, Officials Say.

https://apnews.com/article/buffalo-shoo ... f840650bb1.

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — The white 18-year-old who shot and killed 10 people at a Buffalo supermarket had researched the local demographics while looking for places with a high concentration of Black residents, arriving there at least a day in advance to conduct reconnaissance, law enforcement officials said Sunday.

Authorities said the gunman shot, in total, 11 Black people and two white people Saturday in a rampage motivated by racial hatred that he broadcast live.

This individual came here with the express purpose of taking as many Black lives as he could,” Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown said at a news conference Sunday.

BTW: segregation in America may be mostly "de facto," but I would argue at this point is hardly voluntary, and still present, even post-1968.

Structural Racism Explainer Collection

n cities, suburbs, and rural communities across the United States, our neighborhoods remain stubbornly segregated along racial and ethnic lines. A typical white person lives in a neighborhood that is 75 percent white and only 8 percent African American, whereas a typical African American person lives in a neighborhood that is only 35 percent white and 45 percent African American. Moreover, people of color are overrepresented in neighborhoods with high poverty rates, where essential resources like quality schools, full-service grocery stores, safe and healthy parks, and reliable transportation are often lacking.

These patterns are not explained by income disparities or personal preferences. A middle-income Black family is more likely to live in a poorly resourced neighborhood with a high poverty rate than a low-income white family. And although households of all races and ethnicities increasingly say they prefer integration, discrimination against people of color in housing and lending persists and the effects of past racist public policies continue to be felt.

[snip][end]

Although de jure segregation was largely eliminated in the 1960s, in the U.S. many systems of structural and institutional segregation remain. Not entirely "voluntary".

When segregation was the law whites, blacks, Asians, etc.. live in designated areas and rarely was there any voluntary or involuntary integration. Recent history of overturning centuries of segregation hasn't caused the previously segregated areas from disappearing or becoming fully integrated. Segregation also resulted in long-term economic, social, education, etc. disparities and while the last 50 plus years has lessened the disparities, somewhat, those disparities still exist which is the institutional segregation you mentioned. Therefor, institutional segregation isn't voluntary, it's involuntary.

Yes so-called de facto segregation itself was never voluntary. Both de jure and de facto segregation was also forced. What we continue to see today is the result of a century of policy decisions and lethal vigilantism by conservative whites.

Yes. All planned by government officials and private enterprise, and enforced by the cops.

Totally agreed. I have posted about how a lot of segregation was created by how neighborhoods were bisected and reshaped by interstate highways.

Overtown here in Miami is a result of urban planning and placement of highway ramps. But it's a story throughout the country -- "inner cities" were often shaped by larger decisions, often without the input of their residents.

That these decisions and their impacts are lingering on decades later is anything but "voluntary".

Same for "-towns," barrios, and Jewish neighborhoods, which were formed due to race-restrictive housing and employment covenants.

Not to mention reservations.

Mapping Segregation in Iowa: Other Cities - U. of Iowa libraries
Race restrictive deed covenants or neighborhood restrictions can be found in most American cities, although their timing, their form, and their language varies by region and by city. Here are some brief sketches of the pattern of race restrictions in other cities.

Austin: Restrictive deed covenants and public zoning ordinances worked hand-in-hand to deepen racial segregation in Austin. In the first decades of the 20th century, private racial restrictions increasingly isolated the City’s Black and Hispanic population into what is known as East Austin which deepened racial segregation in Austin. In the first decades of the 20th century, private racial restrictions excluded those “of African descent”, the swift to a broader restriction against those ‘not of the Caucasian race’ enabled Austin to employ restrictions against its growing Latino population as well. These private restrictions were buttressed by zoning, which both excluded African Americans and Hispanics from many residential areas and converted much of the property in and around East Austin to industrial use. The lasting impact of the segregation was that African Americans and Hispanics had to deal with obstacles in voting, segregation in housing, schools, and other public facilities. Source: Eliot M. Tretter, “Austin Restricted: Progressivism, Zoning, Private Racial Covenants, and the Making of a Segregated City” (Institute for Urban Policy Research and Analysis, 2012).

Baltimore: Baltimore was an early innovator in racial segregation. In 1910, the Baltimore City Council passed a racial zoning ordinance prohibiting African Americans from moving into majority-white blocks. When the Supreme Court outlawed racial zoning in 1917, developers and homeowners turned to the use of race-restrictive deed covenants to accomplish and sustain segregation. These were employed in the CIty, and in its exclusive suburbs. The Roland Park Company’s Guilford development, for example, prohibited occupancy by “any negro or person of negro extraction.” This company is significant because they spread their ideas to colleges and universities to be taught, as well as to other city developers who then replicated the restrictive agreements. Baltimore’s early history of racial segregation helped strengthen and popularize a culture of restrictions and racial exclusivity in housing, while promoting the belief that blacks devalued property. Source: Paige Glotzer, How the Suburbs Were Segregated: Developers and the Business of Exclusionary Housing, 1890-1960 (Columbia University Press, 2020)

Chicago: Race restrictive covenants were first used in Chicago in 1916 and were widespread by 1947. Contemporary estimates put the reach of restrictions at between 50 and 80 percent of the city’s residential property base. Many of Chicago’s restrictive covenants were not set to expire until the 1980s in some cases (although they were unenforceable after 1947 and fully illegal after 1968). Chicago’s race restrictive covenants typically stated that the property “Shall not be occupied by anyone who is not Caucasian.” They had the effect of drawing a stark color line between north and south Chicago, and between the city of Chicago and its suburbs. Source: “Racial Restriction and Housing Discrimination in the Chicagoland Area,” Digital Chicago (Lake Forest College).

Kansas City: In Kansas City, racial covenants followed a similar pattern as those in St. Louis; one set of restrictions cobbled together by petition in older neighborhoods facing the threat of racial transition; another drafted by subdivision developers to maintain the exclusivity of new developments. The developer J.C. Nichols, whose homes in Kansas City’s “Country Club” district were sold with the restriction that ‘none of the lots hereby restricted may be conveyed to, used, owned, nor occupied by Negroes as owners or tenants,” played a central role in restricting racial occupancy across much of south Kansas City. On the Kansas side of the metropolitan area, covenants restricted 96 percent of properties in new subdivisions; on the Missouri side, restrictions reach between two-thirds and three-quarters of subdivision properties. Source: Kevin Fox Gotham, “Urban Space, Restrictive Covenants and the Origins of Racial Residential Segregation in a US City, 1900-50,” International Journal of Urban and Regional Research 24:3 (2000).

Milwaukee: Race restrictive covenants were widely used by developers in the Milwaukee suburbs through the 1920s and 1930s. Samples of subdivision deeds and plats show that these agreements were common in the suburbs such as Wauwatosa. Most of these covenants, at least on paper, ran well past the Shelly v Kraemer decision (1947) into the 1960s and 1970s. The racial restriction on the George T. Hansen subdivision in south Milwaukee had an expiration date of January 2024. Most covenants stated that people “not of the white/Caucasian race” could not own, lease, or rent the stated properties. Most of the covenants only allowed non-white occupancy for domestic servants. Source: Lois Quinn, “Racially Restrictive Covenants: The Making of All-White Suburbs in Milwaukee County (UW-Milwaukee Employment and Training Institute, 1979).

Minneapolis: In Minneapolis, racial restrictions began in 1910 and proliferated during the 1930s and 1940s. These restrictions were mostly attached to new subdivisions in Minneapolis, such as a development on Lake of the Isles stating that no houses “be conveyed mortgaged or leased to any person or persons of Chinese, Japanese, Moorish, Turkish, Negro, Mongolian, Semitic or African blood or descent.” The spread of covenants on the east side of Minneapolis relegated virtually all of the City’s small but growing black community to neighborhoods west of the Mississippi River, and effectively eradicated pockets of black occupancy in northeastern g Lake Harriet. Source: Kirsten Delegard et al, Mapping Prejudice (University of Minnesota Libraries).
San Francisco: In San Francisco, racial restrictions against Asian Americans developed after the 1906 earthquake. The need for large-scale rebuilding allowed for exclusive developments to be built in the city center, rather than on the suburban fringe. Developers took the opportunity to create white-only suburbs like Presidio Terrace. Presidio Terrace was designed as both an exclusive enclave of white-only residence, and as a means of stemming the Asian American community settlement into the nearby Western Addition. Advertisements for Presidio Terrace promised protection from the “Japanese invasion.” The development’s development’s marketing brochure “Object Lessons in Home Building” promised that “ no lots can be improved, sold or leased for business purposes, and no one but those of the Caucasian race can occupy any building in the Terrace.” Covenants assured white residents of racial homogeneity away from “unruly and disorderly” Japanese neighbors and Chinese laundries. Californian public policy further alienated and disadvantaged Asian Americans. The 1913 and 1920 Alien Land Law Acts excluded Asian immigrants from naturalization and property ownership, severely limiting their legal rights and economic opportunities for generations. These stereotypes and discrimination reflect white America’s broader anti-Asian sentiments and policies that created Japanese internment camps during World War II and continues to harm Asian Americans today. Horiuchi, Lynne. “Object Lessons In Home Building: Racialized Real Estate Marketing In San Francisco.” Landscape Journal 26 (2007).

The kind of race-paranoia espoused by this person is literally built into the walls in some locales.

Detroit Wall - Wikipedia
The primary concern of white Detroit residents was maintaining racial homogeneity. Local policies allowed for the prevention of black "infiltration" into white neighborhoods due in part to the HOLC members serving as federal appraisers. They identified areas that were "safe" for banks to issue loans to by giving each neighborhood a rating: A, B, C, or D. An "A," or "green," was practically guaranteed a loan, largely due to the fact that these areas were homogeneously white and affluent. In turn, a "D," or "red," neighborhood was occupied by black residents who were systematically prevented from receiving a loan. This became a phenomenon across the United States known as red-lining. In Detroit specifically, red-lining preserved racial homogeneity and increased racial tensions. For example, if a black family moved into a white neighborhood, the rating of the neighborhood would change and everyone’s property value would decrease, creating resentment among the two communities. Between 1930 and 1950, three out of five homes purchased in the United States were financed by FHA, yet less than two percent of the FHA loans were made to non-white home buyers.[4]

Without any financial aid, black neighborhoods became starkly different than white neighborhoods. Renovations, purchasing homes, and rent in these areas were far too expensive to afford, causing deterioration in these areas and overall lower living standards. The appearance of black neighborhoods solidified white resident's opinions that Black residents were a detriment to any neighborhood. Thomas J. Sugrue wrote, “the decaying neighborhoods offered seemingly convincing evidence to white homeowners that blacks were feckless and irresponsible and fueled white fears that blacks would ruin any neighborhood that they moved into.”[3]

Additionally, the New Deal was perceived differently by the federal and local level. In Detroit, these policies caused debates between public housing and private home-ownership, two commodities that those living in Detroit believed could not work together. These debates were often racial, with public housing aimed to help black people in the city and private home-ownership aimed at helping middle class white people become homeowners. The debate over public housing was centered around the belief that such an idea would threaten the private sector. Affordable living for the lower class, usually minorities, meant interference with a successful, free market real estate. Community groups determined to keep their neighborhoods segregated lobbied against public housing projects, and contractors found business working in private housing.

The Eight Mile/Wyoming neighborhood, where this wall is located, was one of many that was significantly affected by the housing crisis. This neighborhood is located outside the city and was described as a farmland where residents pooled resources in order to build their own homes. The houses were small, but the residents were proud of their homes they built up from nothing. In 1938, the Detroit Housing Commission conducted a survey and found residents living here to be among the poorest in Detroit. Despite this, the residents of this neighborhood were both independent and secure with over 90% of residents living in these single family built homes.[3]

After WWII, Marin City became the site of the County's projects, they designed by none other than Frank Lloyd Wright, and like Wright's buildings they leak. Deferred maintance has lead to rodent infestation and county is little or nothing about it. It was more important sink money golf courses. Housing Convenants were enforced well into the 1970's.

Schools in Marin City and Sausalito had been segregated until the 1990's. The Willow Creek School was about as White as it could be. Until Martin Luther King Academy in Marin City was completed in 1999 - 2000. The student were almost exclusively African-American. MLK was starved for funds while Willow Creek floated in money. It got to the point where there were no fully funded positions at MLK for accredited Math, English and Science teachers.

It took state intervention for funding for MLK to be released and even the the board of Willow Creek cried foul.

Segregation in Marin County is alive and well. Affulenacy buys privacy. Gets who buys that?

Hard to be especially disgusted on a platform that disgusts daily, but the so-called intellectuals justifying GRT on the heels of a white supremacist massacre, particularly those who are among the groups allegedly doing the replacing, are a sign of a moral bankruptcy that astounds.

The idea that there is some justification for white fears of being demographically replaced coming from the very same crowd that pretends those who focus on race and racial caste are consumed by dangerous race essentialism and identity politics is the height of hypocrisy.

These same fears that non-white people were overtaking & diluting whiteness and more critically, white power, are how the Irish became white, how Catholics became white, how Greeks and Italians became white. Many people pushing this theory would not have been white 150 yes ago.

Alex Jones claims the Buffalo grocery store shooting was a staged event - Mediamatters

Parallel stochastic terrorism and white-supremacist gaslighting:
“This is very, very simple, and the system knows that, and they knew that this guy was planning to do this and they let him do it”

JONES: It's going to get a lot worse, folks. I mean, it's going to get bad, and they're going to have some more white supremists go out and do this. You know it's going to happen, and they're going to have some crazy brainwashed black people do the same damn thing, and they're going to sit here and play us all off against each other while they rape everybody and cut our power off and inflate everything and screw us. That's what pisses me off is the globalists are the enemy, they're on record, we don't have baby formula, and they've got some crazy person they knew was going to do this and they let him do it again. We exposed that at Parkland and they said that I said the shooting didn't happen, a damn lie. That I had students on that talked about how he was threatening to kill everybody and how they protected him and they said oh, Jones had fake people on, what they accused me of saying about them.

[...]

People started grabbing clips Saturday on Twitter of me saying they're going to shoot up a black grocery store with a white supremist and they were mad at me on Twitter. I saw the comments like, how dare him say so soon it's staged. Those were clips a year and a half, a year ago, and last week. I didn't say that today. I said it before it happened because I know how the globalists operate and I know who they wind up and I know what they do. Folks do you hear me? Theodore Kaczynski, the unabomber worked for the CIA. It came out in court. The CIA was running him.

WSJ op-ed page gaslights the gullible conservatives who read it. :problem:

This takes some real nerve to put trash like this in print.

The Massacre in Buffalo

Another deranged young shooter kills 10 in an act of ‘pure evil.’

We’ll learn more about the shooter’s motives and mindset, but it’s worth noting a report in the Buffalo News that an official in the school Mr. Gendron attended in Conklin, N.Y., said he had spoken of wanting to go on a shooting spree. He fits the profile of other young men who become mass shooters at an age when mental illness often strikes. Keeping guns out of the hands of the mentally ill isn’t easy, but it’s one form of gun control that would do some good.
Mental illness is a canard. Continuing...
There’s no doubt that a racist subculture exists in America and is spread on social media. Politicians and media figures have an obligation to condemn it and such conspiratorial notions as “white replacement theory.” But mass shooters have had many motivations in recent years, and mental illness seems to be the most significant common denominator, to the extent there is one.

President Joe Biden's infrastructure package included $1 billion for projects to remedy racial inequities stemming from U.S. highway designs.
Those who grew up in St. Paul's Rondo neighborhood remember it as a vibrant, tight-knit community — the type of place where you'd run into a dozen friendly faces on a walk around the block.

Keith Baker, the organization's executive director, said that process will likely last two or three years. Studies have estimated the total project could cost up to $458 million.
Of course it was attacked by the Republicans........

Rondo ‘land bridge’ plan was attacked in committee. But the $6M is probably safe.
A plan to install a land bridge over Interstate 94 in St. Paul came under fire recently from some state Senate Republicans, sending waves of concern through supporters of the ambitious project.

But the part of the “Reconnect Rondo” project under attack — some $6 million in funds to merely begin the designing process — is likely safe.
The Rondo plan......

Duluth built one years ago. It reconnected the shops and restaurants on the hill to the water front that 35W had cut off.

A former senior Homeland Security official who previously accused Donald Trump's administration of telling his department to stop providing intelligence reports on the threat of Russian interference in the 2020 election told CNN on Tuesday morning that they were also hindered by the former president's people from alerting the public about the rising tide of white nationalists in the U.S.

Speaking with CNN host Jim Sciutto, Brian Murphy, who was in charge of intelligence and analysis at DHS before filing a whistleblower complaint less than two months before the presidential election Trump lost, used the racist attack in a predominately Black community in Buffalo, New York that left ten dead as a springboard to talk government efforts to deal with white supremacists.

While discussing the Saturday attack by an 18-year-old man on the grocery store -- who also published a hate-filled manifesto aimed at minorities based on the so-called conspiratorial "white replacement" conspiracy pushed by conservatives and Fox News personalities -- Murphy recalled his experiences in the Trump administration.

A group of Black students have filed a lawsuit in Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene's (R-GA) district alleging that the local school system discriminated against them while allowing white students to wear Confederate symbols.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that the lawsuit was filed in U.S. District Court in Rome on Tuesday against Floyd County Schools.

The Black students said that they were suspended for organizing a protest over the killing of George Floyd. And the school allegedly forced them to wear their shirts inside out because of Black Lives Matter slogans or George Floyd images.

I am very surprised I thought most schools by now had banned those symbols. I wonder if they are referring to the stars and bars or some obscure symbols.

As for it being in Greene's district that had nothing to do with the story and I can example of not only poor journalism but very biased reporting.

Well, if another story the opposite of this were made in OAC's district, you wouldn't think it would be poor journalism if the point were made.

BTW, the actual story is in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Sadly, reading the story requires a subscription. We don't know if the AJC made the point. Raw Story is reasonable to point this out.

And don't think for a MOMENT that every school in the south has banned confederate symbols. You know better than that.

Marjorie Taylor Greene is another white supremacist GOP, so it’s relevant to the story.

Dishonest conservative whites like you would rather bury your connections to what is for normal people an embarrassment.

What’s really incredible about you is that you’re not even embarrassed to continuously make conservative whites the victims when you’re perps. Because you’re dim enough to believe in the long-standing white nationalist myth of negro crime, you actually even believe George Floyd got what was coming to him.

It would be like linking the Buffalo shooting to whomever the local congressman happens to be.

Disagree. For instance, the shooter WASN'T from the community, he came there from elsewhere.

Secondly, it should how far right a district much be to have elected a nutjob like her. And what do you have to say if they re-elect her?

I don't know if she is being primaried. Based on how much money she brings in probably not. I am afraid our nation is stuck with her for quite awhile.

This is exactly why you should never vote Democratic.

You guys have already crapped all over this party with your hundreds of Dixiecrats. The last thing we need is passive confederates who sit around and allow MGT, Gaetz, Wendy Brown, Cruz, Haley, Jordan, Gosar, Cawthorn, and the rest of those Jan 6thers to turn your own party into a WN/Confederate enclave.

But then they’re doing this to please slavery shirt constituents such as yourself. So I guess it all fits.
