Draft: SC Vote to Overturn Roe

Post by Drak »

WTF

The Supreme Court has voted to strike down the landmark Roe v. Wade decision, according to an initial draft majority opinion written by Justice Samuel Alito circulated inside the court and obtained by POLITICO.

The draft opinion is a full-throated, unflinching repudiation of the 1973 decision which guaranteed federal constitutional protections of abortion rights and a subsequent 1992 decision – Planned Parenthood v. Casey – that largely maintained the right. “Roe was egregiously wrong from the start,” Alito writes

They've been building up to this for a half century.

Just part of their open plans that they deny.

They are planning to move forward, to end Roe, then ban abortion, then end Social Security and Medicare, and so on and so forth.

If they aren't stopped. But they've been unwavering. They can't do it legislatively, because the people would vote them out, so they're going to do it by the Supreme Court, and pretend they had no idea that the Justices they have picked would do any such thing.

Gee, looks like voting matters after all. Perhaps the majority who still wants a 21st century country had best try doing it.

Since ending Roe v. Wade appears to be a possible thing, yep, both sides have said they are working on federal legislation.

The Dems are looking at a federal law for legalizing abortion nationwide, and the Republicans for banning it nationwide. In our polarizing times, we'll see if either bill can get to the finish line. I can tell you who better represents public opinion, though.

Until or if something happens federally, IF it happens, several states already have "trigger" laws for abortion bans the moment it happens. We will have a patchwork like we did before 1973. About half the states will still have it as an option up until and through the 2nd trimester (like Roe), others will either totally ban it or severely restrict it. IMHO: a 6 week restriction is an effective ban, as many women may not even know they are pregnant at that point. Then the fun begins, like the states creating laws to go after women that leave the state to go elsewhere.

I again suspect the novel reality of 2022 is there will be a massive underground railroad to make RU-486 available, even in the slave, I mean, red/banning states. Now a woman should be taking RU-486 with medical supervision ... maybe "underground" physicians will clandestinely advertise their services.

First I do not like the descion
Second Democrats have had 50 years to craft a federal abortion law but haven't done so out of fear of political backlash
Third whomever leaked this should be disbarred if already an attorney. Or never allowed to practice law if they are a law student

Your party is full of confederates, Jan. 6th criminals, and sexual predators.

You vigorously support every single one of them.

Now for the parroted rightwing talking point of the hour:

The so called talking point is 100pct true.
Look at all the elected Democrats who for decades were opposed to gay rights.
Then the minute public opinion switched they broke their necks to get in front of the parade.
Same is true for abortion rights. The day public opinion changes they will be falling all over each other to craft a federal law

Thr party platform you vote for includes getting rid of both Roe and Obergefell because you guys are every bit as antigay as you are rabidly misogynist and traitorous confederates.

You guys are also going after Griswold v Connecticut and trans families in the doctor’s office because you’re big government authoritarians who need the government to hold others back for you.

Passed by the house in September of 2021.

Failed to receive enough votes in the Senate for cloture in February of 2022.

Take careful note of the latest Glennfs repetitious talking point, that democrat party sat around and did nothing about passing pro-choice law. It’s not something he came up with independently.

It reveals the strategy these conservative predators want to use against not simply the legalization of contraceptives I.e. Griswold.

These people have NEVER gotten over Brown v Board of Education and the overturning of Plessy v Ferguson.

Today they are salivating over the prospect of ending all anti-discrimination and civil rights SCOTUS decisions of the past 70 years, the same 70 years Glennfs references to claim white-conservative mandated discrimination was so long ago.

:problem:

Conservative whites are very intent on forcing those kinds of mandates onto the populace, again. They have been, for the past 70 years, the minute Brown was ruled. You can see it in the laws this person votes for and the extremist politicians he’s currently defending and supporting.

No it’s not the Ds fault that the extremists on the Supreme Court are tossing out the law. It’s Republicans doing it and Republicans who support it.

Don't point facts out GoU, the Troll hates them.

Yes, Abortion is legal. What needs is a federal law condifying Abortion Rights. That is what the Troll does not understand.

So Susan Collins is freaking out. She swears up and down that Gorshuch and Kav told her they would vote to uphold Roe. So, did they lie or did she? In the case of Kav, we KNOW he lied under oath in his hearings, so I wouldn’t be surprised.

But we all know that they were going to vote to overturn. That’s what the whole plan is.

“Concerned” Susan Collins also voted to acquit Trump, twice. She’s not one to stand with ethics, what’s right or the rule of law.

There was no need to pass a federal law protecting abortion rights until people started seeing some tea leaves about Roe being overturned, which is why they first attempted to pass that bill in 2021.

I don't think the Dems need much to fear about backlash.

Worth looking at these polls. Most Americans support some abortions, and Roe.
https://www.forbes.com/sites/alisondurk ... bb5f417ac1

P.S. I hate this kind of reasoning, and am not invoking it myself, but if Roe is overturned, congrats, you have just handed Dems a MASSIVE issue for the midterms. That said - no - however politically advantageous it might be, I'm hoping they don't do it.

The chaos it will unleash throughout the country is not worth it.
