Maxi Jazz, Singer and Founding Member of UK Dance Group Faithless, Dies at 65

Maxi Jazz, the singer and multi-instrumentalist best known for his work with the electronic band Faithless, has died, The Guardian and Rolling Stone report. Members of Faithless also confirmed the news on social media earlier today (December 24). “We are heartbroken to share that Maxi died peacefully in his sleep last night,” Faithless keyboardist Sister Bliss tweeted. Maxi Jazz was 65 years old.

Maxi Jazz was born Maxwell Frasier born in Brixton, London, in 1957. He got his start as a musician in the 1980s, performing with his band, the Soul Food Cafe System, and hosting a hip-hop show called In the Soul Kitchen With DJ Maxi Jazz on the pirate radio station Reach FM. He later started the label Namu Records to release music from the Soul Food Cafe System, and toured Europe with the group.

Former Kansas City theatre director found dead just days after being accused of sexual assault on social media

A former Kansas City theatre director has been found dead only days after allegations of sexual assault against him surfaced on social media.

Jeff Church, 63, served as the artistic director of the Coterie Theatre in Kansas City, Missouri for more than three decades but resigned shortly before he was found dead at his home by police on Saturday afternoon, The Kansas City Star reported.

Jo Mersa Marley, Bob Marley’s grandson, dies at 31

MIAMI — Reggae musician Joseph “Jo Mersa” Marley, Bob Marley’s grandson and Stephen Marley’s son, has died at 31.

His representative confirmed his death to Rolling Stone on Tuesday but a cause of death was not immediately disclosed.

Pelé, Brazil’s mighty king of ‘beautiful game,’ has died

SAO PAULO (AP) — Pelé, the Brazilian king of soccer who won a record three World Cups and became one of the most commanding sports figures of the last century, died Thursday. He was 82.

The standard-bearer of “the beautiful game” had undergone treatment for colon cancer since 2021. The medical center where he had been hospitalized for the last month said he died of multiple organ failure as a result of the cancer.

Vivienne Westwood, influential fashion maverick, dies at 81

LONDON (AP) — Vivienne Westwood, an influential fashion maverick who played a key role in the punk movement, died Thursday at 81.

Westwood's eponymous fashion house announced her death on social media platforms, saying she died peacefully. A cause of death was not disclosed in the statement.

Iconic TNA Announcer Don West Passes Away

Famed IMPACT Wrestling Announcer and legendary pitchman Don West has died at age 59 after an ongoing battle with brain lymphoma. West's former TNA broadcast colleague and friend Mike Tenay shared the news on Twitter.

"Just heard from wife Terri that our brother Don West will be spending New Year's in heaven," Tenay wrote. "Terri said D-Dub finally had to tap out from his match with lymphoma. We bonded as soon as we met, both as broadcast partners and friends. Years of great moments both on and off camera."

Bob Penny, bit actor in numerous Hollywood films, dies at 87

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (AP) — Bob Penny, an Alabama college professor and actor who performed small roles in movies including “Forrest Gump” and “Sweet Home Alabama,” has died at age 87.

Penny died on Christmas Day, according to an obituary from Laughlin Service Funeral Home in Huntsville. No cause of death was given.

Legendary newswoman Barbara Walters passes away at 93

Barbara Walters, the trailblazing television news broadcaster and longtime ABC News anchor and correspondent who shattered the glass ceiling and became a dominant force in an industry once dominated by men, has died. She was 93.

Walters joined ABC News in 1976, becoming the first female anchor on an evening news program. Three years later, she became a co-host of "20/20," and in 1997, she launched "The View."

Neal Jimenez, ‘River’s Edge‘ and ’The Waterdance’ Screenwriter, Dies at 62

Neal Jimenez, a screenwriter and filmmaker whose credits include “River’s Edge” and “The Waterdance,” died of heart failure on Dec. 11 in Arroyo Grande, Calif. He was 62. His works were favorites on the awards circuit, attracting wins in screenwriting categories at ceremonies such as the Independent Spirit Awards and the Sundance Film Festival.

Jimenez wrote and co-directed “The Waterdance” with director Michael Steinberg, and alongside the recognition the film received on the awards circuit in 1993, the autobiographical film was included in the book “The New York Times Guide to the Best 1,000 Movies Ever Made.” He shared writing credits on five other films: “Where the River Runs Black,” “For the Boys,” “The Dark Wind,” “Sleep With Me” and “Hideaway.”

Keenan Cahill, Beloved YouTube Star Famous for His Lip-Synching, Dead at 27

Keenan Cahill, the YouTube star famous for lip-synching and celebrity cameos, is dead. He was 27.

At age one, Cahill was diagnosed with Maroteaux Lamy Syndrome which is a "progressive condition that causes many tissues and organs to enlarge, become inflamed or scarred, and eventually waste away (atrophy)," according to the National Library of Medicine. Skeletal abnormalities also commonly occur with this condition.

Anita Pointer of Pointer Sisters dead at 74

Anita Pointer, one of the Grammy-winning Pointer Sisters whose string of pop, country and R&B hits in the 1970s and '80s included I'm So Excited, Jump (For My Love) and Fire, died of cancer on Saturday at age 74, her publicist said.

Pointer was surrounded by family at her Beverly Hills home when she died, publicist Roger Neal said.

Worker killed on ramp at Alabama airport in airplane incident

Dec 31 (Reuters) - A worker was fatally injured on the ramp at Montgomery Regional Airport in Alabama where an American Airlines regional carrier flight was parked, the Federal Aviation Administration said Saturday.

The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the incident that occurred where American Airlines Flight 3408, an Embraer E175, was parked at the gate after arriving from Dallas. The FAA said the airport was closed after the incident.

Ian Tyson, of Renowned ’60s Folk Duo Ian and Sylvia, Dies at 89

Ian Tyson, a towering figure in Canadian music who found his greatest renown as half of the ’60s folk-singing duo Ian and Sylvia, died Thursday at 89. The cause of death was attributed to “ongoing health complications.”

Ian and Sylvia’s most famous song, the Tyson-penned “Four Strong Winds,” released in 1963, became a folk standard. It has been covered by dozens of artists over the last six decades, among them Neil Young (on his “Comes a Time” album), Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, John Denver, Teenage Fanclub, the Carter Family, Marianne Faithful, Waylon Jennings, Bobby Bare, Gillian Welch and Conor Oberst. Art McNally got to experience his historic moment last year.

McNally became the first on-field official inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. It was a well-deserved honor. McNally helped shape the way the NFL is officiated.

Ken Block, famed professional rally driver and the driving force behind the Hoonigan brand, has passed away at the age of 55 in a snowmobile accident. Block was a transcendent action sports star who competed in skateboarding, snowboarding, and motocross events during his storied career. He was also famous for his Gymkhana series of extreme auto sports videos.

Last last year, Audi announced that it would be working with Block on his next Gymkhana project, and the partnership would include building a completely custom EV for Block to pilot in his latest stunt-filled video.

Wrestling Legend Mike Pappas Passes Away

Mike Pappas, who was known as “The Flying Greek” during his wrestling career, has passed away. Jason Braiser, who directed a documentary about Pappas, took to Twitter to announce that the wrestling legend (born Manoli Savvenas) passed away after a battle with colorectal cancer. He was 83 years old.

Pappas wrestled from 1968 until 1978, learning the art of wrestling in Rhodes, Greece before coming to America. Pappas worked on undercards for the WWWF according to Slam Wrestling and was known for his aerial skills. He was smaller than the traditional wrestlers at the time, weighed in at 202 pounds. He worked for Nick Gulas in Tennessee as well as in Iowa among other territories.

Former Purdue, NFL player dies in West Lafayette home

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Former Purdue football offensive guard and former NFL player Uchechukwu Nwaneri died Friday in the West Lafayette home of his wife, according to West Lafayette police and Tippecanoe County Coroner Carrie Costello.

Nwaneri drove up from Georgia, police said, and he was at his wife's West Lafayette's house in the 2600 block of Willow Drive when he apparently collapsed, Costello said.

A friend of mine fell into some rare Audi and Block bought it last year. He didn't tell the guy who he was until after the negotiations.

Block sent two of his guys to pick it up. Then about a month later out of the blue my friend received a large package from Block full of swag.
Including an autographed rim. Block must have been a really terrific person.

Catherine Cyran Dies: Daytime Emmy-Nominated Filmmaker Was 59

Catherine Cyran, the Daytime Emmy-nominated director of more than 20 features, died on Christmas Eve, according to multiple Facebook posts from those close to her. While a cause of death has not yet been reported, she was 59.

“Today we lost a beautiful soul, Catherine Cyran..This Chriatmas Eve You slipped through my fingers peacefully,” wrote Gary B Bigger Jr. on December 24. “My mentor & director who truly loved me…I never thought angels existed till now.”

Walter Cunningham, last surviving Apollo 7 astronaut, dies at 90

Walter Cunningham, an astronaut who was the last surviving member of the 1968 Apollo 7 mission, died on Tuesday at 90. The Iowa-born Cunningham served in the US Navy and Marine Corps before joining NASA in 1963 and eventually taking part in the Apollo program’s first crewed (and first televised) flight.

NASA confirmed Cunningham’s death and added that he was "instrumental to our Moon landing's program success.” According to the Houston Chronicle, Cunningham died in a local hospital of complications from a fall.

Connecticut state legislator killed in wrong-way car crash: 'Shocking and unfathomable'

Connecticut state Rep. Quentin Williams was killed in a car crash after he was struck by a wrong-way driver, hours after he was sworn in for his third term on Wednesday, officials said.

Williams, known as "Q," was 39 years old. The Democrat had served the residents of his hometown of Middletown in the Connecticut State House since 2019. He was recently appointed to serve as co-chair of the legislature's labor committee.

Grammy Winner Mark Capps Shot Dead by Police After He Allegedly Held His Wife and Stepdaughter Hostage

A Grammy-winning recording engineer is dead after being shot by police who were investigating claims he kidnapped his wife and stepdaughter and held them at gunpoint.

Mark J. Capps, 54, allegedly held a gun at police who responded to the kidnapping incident, Metropolitan Nashville Police Department public affairs director Don Aaron said in a "critical incident briefing."
