Corporate naming rights & sporting arenas don't mix it's a total money waste.
Report: Miami Heat’s arena sponsor files for bankruptcy
Back in 2021, a popular cryptocurrency exchange named FTX Trading purchased the naming rights to the basketball arena that the Miami Heat call home.
In recent days, the company has come under incredible controversy and accusations of mismanaging money from investors, and on Friday, the company did what many expected it would do by filing for bankruptcy.

82 schools have removed their racist namesakes since 2020. Dozens now honor people of color.
It wasn’t until her junior year that Ashley Sanchez-Viafara learned the truth behind her high school’s racist namesake.
The Thomas Chambliss Williams high school in Alexandria, Virginia, was named after a longtime district superintendent who served during the civil rights era — and did everything he could to preserve segregation.

Bad choice of words
Tim Hardaway apologized for comparing a player's defense to rape
Tim Hardaway issued an apology in the same game where he made a terrible comparison on a broadcast.
After a tough defensive play in the third quarter between the Golden State Warriors and the San Antonio Spurs, Hardaway said "ya'll thought that was great D, I thought that was just raping him." After a bit of back-and-forth banter between Hardaway and his fellow broadcasters Chris Mullin and Mitch Richmond, Hardaway added that "I think he should have called the police on that."

Elizabeth Holmes sentenced to 11.25 years in prison, three years supervision, and fined a $400 million special assessment.
Elizabeth Holmes, founder and CEO of the collapsed Silicon Valley blood testing company, Theranos, has been sentenced to 11.25 years in prison plus three years supervised release for financial crimes she committed while running the once-high flying venture.
Holmes was also fined a $400 million special assessment. Holmes must surrender to custody on April 27, 2023. Holmes is expected to appeal.
The judge presiding over Holmes’ trial and sentencing said the landmark case, one of the most closely watched in Silicon Valley history, should be a cautionary tale for startup founders who are willing to overhype the capabilities of their products.
“I suppose we step back and ask what is the pathology of fraud? Is it the refusal to accept responsibility or express contrition in any way?" Judge Edward Davila said. "Perhaps that is the cautionary tale that will go forward from this case."

Paramount Terminates Deal To Sell Simon & Shuster to Bertelsmann
Paramount Global announced that it terminated its agreement to sell its Simon & Schuster publishing business to a subsidiary of Bertelsmann for $2.2 billion.
The deal, reached in November 2020, ran into regulatory problems, with the Department of Justice filing suit to block the sale. The U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia ruled in favor of the Justice Department on October 31, saying the sale would lessen competition for publishing right to books expected to be best sellers.
