Russia says it's pulling out of International Space Station over sanctions

The leader of Russia's space agency on Saturday again warned that the country will pull out of the International Space Station over sanctions meant to punish the country for Vladimir Putin's unprovoked invasion of Ukraine, but he did not give a timetable or say when the move will be announced, per Russian state media.

What he's saying: “The decision has been taken already, we’re not obliged to talk about it publicly,” said general director Dmitry Rogozin, the head of Russia's space agency Roscosmos, per state media outlets Tass and RIA Novosti via Bloomberg.

General Hospital Alum Steve Burton Announces Split From Wife of 23 Years, Shares Personal Details

Only days after word began to spread that General Hospital alum Steve Burton (ex-Jason) will be appearing on the Days of Our Lives spinoff Beyond Salem, the actor shared news of a far more personal nature. After nearly a quarter-century of marriage, he and wife Sheree have hit a rough patch.

“I wanted to clear something up,” he said in a straight-forward Instagram story. “Sheree and I are separated. She recently announced that she is expecting her fourth child. The child is not mine.”

Cameo, Celebrity Video Shout-Out App, Lays Off 25% of Its Employees

Cameo, a startup that sells customized video shout-outs from celebrities that was valued last year at about $1 billion, has made major layoffs after a slowdown in business.

The company laid off 87 staffers, representing roughly 25% of its headcount. CEO Steven Galanis confirmed the cuts, citing the need to “right-size” the business after its fortunes reversed in the wake of a surge driven by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Steven Molinaro charged with attempted murder. Man tied to black market cannabis tried to bail him out.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Authorities on Staten Island have charged the grandson of former Staten Island Borough President James Molinaro with attempted murder, weeks after a shooting inside his Fort Wadsworth home.

Steven Molinaro, 33, initially was arrested for felony marijuana and gun charges after police responded to the residence on Lyman Avenue on April 27 and found a 21-year-old woman — who sources have described as the defendant’s on-again-off-again girlfriend— lying on a bed with a single gunshot wound to the chest. Authorities say Molinaro, a second male and the victim were the only three people inside the house at the time.

Facebook is shutting down its podcast service, discontinuing other audio products

Facebook is shutting down its podcast service on June 3 barely a year after its launch. The social media giant told TechCrunch that it’s also going to discontinue its short-form audio Soundbites feature and its Audio hub in the coming weeks. Facebook will also integrate its Live Audio Rooms offering, which is its Clubhouse clone, into its Facebook Live experience. The company says this integration will allow for a more streamlined experience so that users will have the option to go live with audio and video, video only or audio only.

“After a year of learning and iterating on audio-first experiences, we’ve decided to simplify our suite of audio tools on Facebook,” a spokesperson from Meta told TechCrunch. “We’re integrating Live Audio Rooms into Facebook Live and we will discontinue our other audio products. We’re constantly evaluating the features we offer so we can focus on the most meaningful experiences.”

Apple is discontinuing the iPod touch, the last version of the portable music player it still sells.

Tom Reed resigns from Congress

Rep. Tom Reed, a Republican from Corning who had planned to retire at the end of this year, resigned from Congress on Tuesday.

"After almost 12 years in Congress, today is my last day," he said on the House floor. "It has been an honor to serve with you all from both parties. I love this institution as it still exemplifies what is best about our government: We are the people’s house. While I am proud that we put people before politics, there is much more to do. I am leaving to continue that work and hope to have a greater impact on our country."

I own an old Apple 32GB iPod. I have it loaded with music from my LPs and CDs and it's connected to an old TEAC AM/FM radio, CD, and MP3 system. The system wakes me up with shuffled music from the iPod so I can slowly wake up while listening to different songs. I hold on to the iPod as long as it still works. I have, like most people, my music on my cell phone so I can see why Apple is discontinuing the iPod.

Pilots who unsuccessfully attempted first-ever 'plane swap' have licenses revoked by FAA

The pilots who attempted the "plane swap" stunt in Aprilhave had their pilot licenses revoked by the Federal Aviation Administration for their "careless and reckless" actions in the unsuccessful stunt.

Luke Aikins and Andy Farrington, cousins and experienced skydivers, attempted the stunt on April 24 over Eloy, Arizona – around 50 miles southeast of Phoenix. The plan was for Aikins and Farrington to fly their planes 12,000 feet in the air before putting it into a nosedive, jumping out of their respective planes, skydiving into the other plane and then landing the plane safely.

Controversial SJSU anthropologist will remain locked out of Native American remains collection - Mercury News
A San Jose State anthropology professor has lost her legal attempt to regain access to the university’s collection of Native American remains after she was caught up in a cultural firestorm over her tweeted photo smiling with an indigenous skull.

In a showdown over academic freedom, tenured professor Elizabeth Weiss argued in a lawsuit filed in February that the university retaliated against her and violated her First Amendment rights when it closed off the collection for research.

But this week, U.S. District Court Judge Beth Labson Freeman dismissed Weiss’s request for a temporary injunction on the university’s ban. The judge also pointed out that Weiss cannot use the First Amendment as a “shield and a sword” to protect her own controversial statements and to silence the First Amendment rights of those who disagree.

Russian gymnast Ivan Kuliak banned one year for wearing pro-war 'Z' symbol

Russian artistic gymnast Ivan Kuliak was banned from competition for one year on Tuesday by the International Gymnastics Federation for displaying a pro-war letter "Z" during a competition in March.

The letter "Z" has been painted on Russian tanks and streets since the invasion of Ukraine began and has symbolized support for the war. Russian officials, including Vladimir Putin, continue to refer to the war as a "special military operation."

Report: Yankees cut former 3rd-round draft pick for allegedly stealing teammates' equipment

A now-former New York Yankees prospect allegedly had some issues with steals, and we are not talking about baserunning.

Jake Sanford, the Yankees' third-round pick in the 2019 MLB draft, was cut by the team last week over allegations that he repeatedly "hounded" teammates for equipment such as bats and gloves to sell online, and occasionally going as far as grabbing it from their lockers, according to NJ.com's Brendan Kuty.

Tesla cut from S&P 500 ESG Index, and Elon Musk tweets his fury

May 18 (Reuters) - An S&P Dow Jones Indices executive told Reuters on Wednesday it has removed electric carmaker Tesla Inc (TSLA.O) from the widely followed S&P 500 ESG Index (.SPXESUP)because of issues including claims of racial discrimination and crashes linked to its autopilot vehicles, and Tesla CEO Elon Musk responded with harsh tweets including that "ESG is a scam".

In it changes, effective May 2, the sustainability index also added soon-to-be-Musk-controlled Twitter Inc (TWTR.N) and oil refiner Phillips 66 (PSX.N) while dropping Delta Air Lines and Chevron Corp, according to an announcement.

NBC News Veteran Pete Williams to Sign Off After Nearly Three Decades

Pete Williams is getting ready to sign off from NBC News after a nearly three-decade-long career. Before he goes, however, he may just have to report on one of the most consequential national stories in recent memory.

Williams, who has covered the U.S. Department of Justice and the Supreme Court for NBC for 29 years, is set to depart the Comcast unit after July, according to a memo issued by NBC News President Noah Oppenheim. That would likely leave Williams in position when the Court hands down what is expected to be a much-scrutinized decision on the legal standing of Roe vs Wade and the right of a woman to have access to medical help to terminate a pregnancy. A draft of a decision around a current case considering the issue was disclosed by Politico earlier this month and a final decision on the matter could come between now and the end of June.
