California Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez resigns to take position in the California Labor Federation, AFL-CIO in preparation for becoming its leader in July. She the Assemblywoman in the district next to mine and unlike most politicians who resigns and say they want to spend more time with their family, she gave a clear and well-reasoned response as to why she was resigning.

I just announced my resignation from the State Assembly so that I can accept a job with the California Labor Federation, AFL-CIO in preparation for becoming its leader in July. This move will allow me to continue my life’s commitment to serve & empower working Californians.

"At the end of the day, there is nothing we can do that is as powerful as a union contract," Gonzalez told News 8. "If we really want to tackle income inequality, if we really want to have a more equitable society, we need stronger unions, and to be able to lead a movement at this point is such an attractive opportunity."

General Motors loses it's title as the Number 1 America's top car seller. They held the Number 1 title since 1931.
US car giant General Motors has lost its title as America's top car seller for the first time in 90 years.

Japan's Toyota claimed the top spot, selling more than 2.3 million vehicles last year, up 10%.

GM said its sales, which fell 13%, were hurt by the widespread shortage of semiconductor parts that has been affecting the car industry.

The Detroit company had ranked as the number one US car seller since 1931 and vowed it would bounce back.

Remember the Rabbi from the Chabad of Poway shooting in 2019? He became a public figure speaking out against anti-Semitism and even addressed the United Nations. He's been sentenced to 14 months in prison for fraud schemes and tax fraud. What he did was have people give the Chabad a donation. He'd given them a receipt showing the donation so the donor can take a charitable deduction on their taxes. Then he'd return 90% of the donations back to the donor and he'd keep the remaining 10%.
Former Chabad of Poway Rabbi Yisroel Goldstein was sentenced Tuesday to 14 months in prison for engaging in a series of fraudulent schemes, most notably a tax fraud in which supposed charitable donations made to the synagogue were funneled back to donors.

Goldstein, 60, was also ordered to pay nearly $3 million in restitution to victims, which include the IRS and companies that matched donations their employees made to the Chabad.

In what prosecutors have termed the "90/10" scheme, Goldstein accepted charitable donations, then would send about 90% of the funds back to the donors, while pocketing the remainder for himself. Donors would then falsely claim on tax forms that 100% of their donations went to the Chabad, with Goldstein providing the false donors with fake receipts.

The U.S. Attorney's Office said Goldstein received at least $6.2 million in fake contributions and ultimately kept more than half a million dollars through the course of the fraud, resulting in tax losses to the IRS exceeding $1.5 million.

Manchin’s $1.8 trillion spending offer is reportedly no longer on the table

U.S. Senator Joe Manchin’s $1.8 trillion spending offer he proposed to the White House in late 2021 appears to be no longer on the table following a breakdown between the Democratic lawmaker from West Virginia and the White House, the Washington Post reported on Saturday.

Manchin told reporters this week that he is no longer involved in discussions with the White House and has signaled privately that he is not interested in approving any legislation like President Joe Biden’s Build Back Better Package, the newspaper said, citing three people with knowledge of the matter.

Gillette Mayor resigns after disparaging text messages leaked

Gillette Mayor Louise Carter-King announced her resignation on Jan. 6 after apologizing earlier in the week at a city council meeting for a lengthy series of text messages that were sent via email to members of the city council, city clerk, and other unnamed individuals.

The texts, which amount to 464 pages of conversations between Carter-King and former City Administrator Patrick Davidson, span from Nov. 2019 to June 2020. In the exchanges, Carter-King made several disparaging comments about local elected and appointed officials, county commissioners, department heads, attorneys, and even members of the community.

Elvis Costello Says He’s Retiring ‘Oliver’s Army’ From Live Shows Rather Than Alter Lyrics

Elvis Costello is saying that fans may have heard “Oliver’s Army,” one of his biggest hits, in concert for the last time. He’s “done singing it,” rather than continuing to censor or alter the original lyrics, as he had when he’d performed the song on tour as recently as two years ago.

Costello has said he would also prefer that radio stations halt playing the original recording — which went to No. 2 in the U.K. in 1979, and had been an enduring favorite in America — rather than play a bleeped version, which he maintains only calls more attention to the lyric in question.

'The Young and the Restless' Actor Richard Burgi Reveals Why He Was Fired

Richard Burgi has been fired from The Young and the Restless after what the actor said was an accidental violation of the CBS daytime drama's COVID safety policy. Burgi, who joined the show last March in the recurring role of Ashland Locke, took to his Instagram Story Tuesday to "set the record straight" on being let go from the series.

After visiting family for Christmas and testing positive for COVID, Burgi said he "naively and inadvertently violated the show's COVID policy" by returning to set after five days of isolation in line with the timeframe the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention set at the end of December. Burgi claimed he was unaware the show has a 10-day isolation policy even with his two negative tests, and he violated that policy with his return to set.

Her husband is Nathan Fletcher who was re-appointed, yesterday, as the chair of the San Diego County Board of Supervisors. Early this morning, their home smoke detector went off and Fletcher saw the front of their house on fire. The fire is believed to have been started in a outdoor trash can.

Nathan Fletcher used to be a republican and when he switched I was suspicious of him. Since then, his actions are inline with the majority of Democrats.

Marilyn Mosby: Baltimore state's attorney indicted on charges of perjury and making false statements on mortgage applications - MSN
he chief prosecutor for the city of Baltimore has been indicted by a federal grand jury on two counts of perjury and two counts of making false statements on loan applications for the purchase of two vacation homes in Florida, according to court documents filed Thursday.

State's Attorney Marilyn Mosby, who gained national attention in 2015 for charging officers in the in-custody death of Freddie Gray, now herself faces perjury charges over documents she submitted to apply for loans against her retirement plan in 2020, according to the indictment.

In doing so, Mosby, whose term in office ends this year, allegedly used a withdrawal option created under the CARES Act, passed to help people who were financially impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic.
