Europe isn't use to high temperatures. When I was stationed there having temperatures in the 80s was considered hot. Now, it's in the 90s and low 100s. Also, air conditioning isn't widespread as it is here so most home and apartments will heat up fast.
As El Niño continues to develop in the Eastern Pacific, San Diego’s sportfishing industry is already seeing early signs of what could be a banner season.
At H&M Landing, excitement is building as anglers and crews report strong catches in local waters. Captain Tyler Wilson of the Grande says the season has started off with an impressive influx of yellowtail.
“We’ve seen an influx of yellowtail already this year, and it's really exciting for us, especially with the rumors of El Niño,” Wilson said. “The quality has been phenomenal—nice, big, healthy fish. I’d call them 15- to 25-pounders, with some standout 30s.”
In a surprising development, yellowtail are also being caught unusually close to shore. A 50-pound yellowtail was recently landed off Crystal Pier, with another reportedly hooked but lost. The activity has many comparing current conditions to the historic 2015–2016 El Niño, which brought exceptional fishing opportunities to the region.

Powerful back-to-back earthquakes struck Venezuela on Wednesday evening, causing widespread damage, collapsing buildings and sending panicked residents into the streets.
The 7.2 and 7.5 magnitude earthquakes roiled the region, with buildings evacuated in cities as far away as Brazil’s Amazon, about 1,700 kilometers (1,050 miles) from Caracas.
In a brief address to the nation late Wednesday, acting President Delcy Rodríguez said the earthquakes caused damages in several states, but she did not give any figures on the number of homes and buildings affected, or on injuries or fatalities.
The earthquakes damaged the country’s main airport, Simón Bolívar International Airport, severely enough to lead to its closure, she said, adding that classes were being canceled for several days.

A powerful earthquake struck off Japan’s northern coast on Thursday, but the country’s meteorological agency said there was no danger of a tsunami.
The quake had a magnitude of 7.2 and occurred off the eastern coast of Iwate, upgraded from an initial reading of 6.9, the Japan Meteorological Agency said. The quake had a depth of about 50 kilometers (30 miles), it said. JMA The U.S. Geological Survey also reported a magnitude of 6.9.
The rattling occurred in an area where strong earthquakes have repeatedly been reported in recent months, including one that triggered a weeklong mega-quake caution advisory in December.
The quake, which struck Japan’s northeastern region during Thursday’s morning rush hour, also mildly shook Tokyo. There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage, according to top government spokesperson Minoru Kihara.
