Tom Malinowski, Analilia Mejia in tight race in New Jersey's special House Democratic primary

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — A former congressman and a onetime political director for Sen. Bernie Sanders were in a tight race Thursday to become the Democratic nominee for a New Jersey U.S. House seat that was vacated when Mikie Sherill was elected governor.

Former U.S. Rep. Tom Malinowski started election night with a significant lead over Analilia Mejia, based largely on early results from mail-in ballots. The margin narrowed as results from votes cast that day were tallied, and the two were locked in a tight race.

DHAKA, Bangladesh -- The Bangladesh Nationalist Party has claimed victory in the country's first election since the 2024 uprising, positioning itself to form the next government and potentially reshape Bangladesh's political landscape after years of intense rivalry and disputed polls.

The party's media unit in a post on X Friday said it had secured enough seats in Parliament to govern on its own. Final results have not yet been announced by the Election Commission, though several local media outlets reported the party's win.

Thune declares ‘talking filibuster’ dead

Senate Majority Leader John Thune is facing relentless pressure from all directions as he navigates a politically perilous — and MAGA-driven — fight over legislation requiring ID and proof of citizenship to vote.

The pressure is coming from MAGA influencers online, House and Senate conservatives and even President Donald Trump. It all centers around a push to use the “talking filibuster” to pass the SAVE America Act.

Supreme Court blocks redrawing of New York congressional map, dealing a win for GOP

The Supreme Court on Monday intervened in New York's redistricting process, blocking a lower court decision that would likely have flipped a Republican congressional district into a Democratic district.

At issue is the midterm redrawing of New York's 11th Congressional District, including Staten Island and a small part of Brooklyn. The district is currently held by a Republican, but on Jan. 21, a state Supreme Court judge ruled that the current district dilutes the power of Black and Latino voters in violation of the state constitution.

Voters overwhelmingly reject sales tax. March election ‘a mistake,’ Mayor Wu says

Wichita voters overwhelmingly rejected a 1% sales tax by nearly 82% of the vote on Tuesday. “It means taxpayers don’t trust our elected officials to have their best interests,” Vote No organizer Celeste Racette said. “That means city council and the mayor need to chart a new path where they’re demonstrating accountability, transparency and trust with how they’re spending our money.”

Live updates: North Carolina 2026 primary election day

RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- Election Day for North Carolina's 2026 primary race is Tuesday, when voters will choose candidates for the November ballot.

The highest-profile race on North Carolina ballots this cycle is the U.S. Senate race to succeed retiring Republican Sen. Thom Tillis, who announced in June he would not seek reelection. It is expected to become one of the most expensive races on the map this year as Republicans aim to protect their majority in the Senate and Democrats hope to flip several seats.
