A private plane that crashed in upstate New York over the weekend was carrying six members of a close-knit family of physicians and distinguished student-athletes on a trip to the Catskills for a birthday celebration and the Passover holiday.

The twin-engine Mitsubishi MU-2B went down shortly after noon Saturday in a muddy field in Copake, New York, near the Massachusetts line, killing everyone on board, according to authorities and a family member who spoke to The Associated Press.

A new report into the Jan. 29 midair collision between an American Airlines passenger jet and a U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter found that the captain who was flying the military aircraft was not impaired.

The New York Times — using dozens of records and interviews with aviation experts — reported in an April 27 investigative story that while there is still no answer as to exactly why the crew on board the Black Hawk continued flying toward the airplane, they were not medically impaired.

2 people and 1 dog killed in small plane crash into Simi Valley neighborhood, police say

SIMI VALLEY, Calif. (KABC) -- A small, single-engine aircraft crashed into two homes and caused a fire in a Simi Valley neighborhood Saturday afternoon, according to authorities.

The pilot of the plane, a passenger, and a dog all died in the crash, the Simi Valley Police Department confirmed. There were no survivors onboard.

Damage extensive after small plane crashes into San Diego neighborhood

A small plane crashed into a San Diego neighborhood during foggy weather early Thursday, setting about 15 homes on fire as well as vehicles, and forcing evacuations along several blocks, authorities said.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration, the Cessna 550 went down around 3:45 a.m. near Montgomery-Gibbs Executive Airport in the Tierrasanta community, specifically in the area of Sculpin Street and Santo Road.

The Cessna 550 is a stretch version of the Citation. It's a corporate jet. They don't make them any more, but I'm told that airplane brokers will fix you right up for half a million to three million depending on the particular plane. You'll need instrument rated jet pilots too, and they don't work cheap.

This one was bound for one of those "executive airports" you find on the outskirts of big cities. Very popular with the oligarchy.

The street had cars burning all over the place in the shots run by the Nooz. One truck was pushed into a house, which also caught fire, but it was not completely destroyed. Full extent of damage to the neighborhood is unknown, though.

The crash happened about 8 miles from where I live. It was the big news story on the local TV stations this morning.

The preliminary report from India’s Air Accident Investigation Bureau into the loss of Air India flight 171, which killed 260 people, has cast attention firmly on the actions of the pilots.

As we just reported, the report says that according to data from the flight recorder both the fuel control switches, which are normally used to switch the engines on or off when on the ground, were moved from the run to the cutoff position shortly after takeoff.

This caused both engines to lose thrust.

Both pilots seemed from the data and voice recorders to think the other one turned off the engines. The odds are very much against a mechanical failure. The switches are mechanical, but they are completely hand-operated and incorporate various fail-safe features. One has to really want to turn them off. Human intervention is the common-sense guess as to what happened to make them fail deadly.

An-24 passenger plane crashes in Russia: Details

A passenger plane, An-24, with 49 people on board, crashed in the Amur region of the Russian Federation (RF). Rescuers have already discovered the burning fuselage of the aircraft, according to Mediazona.

Delta pilot narrowly avoids collision with B-52 bomber

A Delta Air Lines regional jet had to make a surprise hard turn on Friday to avoid colliding with a U.S. Air Force B52 bomber.

The SkyWest Flight 3788 plane was flying from Minnesota to North Dakota when it crossed paths with a B-52 bomber that was performing a flyover at the North Dakota State Fair. The commercial pilot made an abrupt sharp turn to avoid a midair collision with the B-52. The SkyWest pilot was later met with applause from the passengers and the plane eventually landed safely in Minot, North Dakota.

3 Monterey County residents killed in Pacific Grove plane crash

The US Coast Guard has confirmed with KSBW 8 that three bodies have been recovered off the coast of Pacific Grove following a confirmed private plane crash on Saturday night.

The Monterey County Sheriff's Office has identified the deceased as 60-year-old Steve Clatterbuck of Salinas, 36-year-old James Vincent of Monterey, and 44-year-old Jamie Tabscott of Monterey.

They had the hearings about the DCA crash last week. The one where an airliner hit an Army chopper over the Potomac. The testimony went on for days, and contained the usual impenetrable airspeak with long strings of acronyms and the occasional verb. It was all rather hard for those not in that line of work to follow, but it sounded as if there was a definite problem with air traffic control in such a crowded airspace. The usual stuff about tight budgets, delayed implementation of newer systems, and lack of communication between relevant agencies.

Maybe someone with ATC or piloting experience will write a nice article somewhere that decodes all this into plain English.

Four Killed After Medical Plane Crashes While Landing On Navajo Nation In Arizona

Four people were killed on Tuesday when a medical transport plane crashed and caught fire near Chinle Municipal Airport on the Navajo Nation, tribal officials confirmed.

The aircraft, a Beechcraft 300 operated by CSI Aviation of Albuquerque, New Mexico, went down around 12:40 pm while attempting to land.
