Democrats Might Want to Put Her in Charge
Re: Democrats Might Want to Put Her in Charge
Blunt has its uses, but it does not perform well when the rage is aimed at the only people trying to do something about it. It works at mass protests where the funniest signs get on TV or Internet, but it doesn't really change the outcome of elections. That takes coordinated action, and people generally have to disagree on some things to keep coalitions together.
One procedure that worked well in the last anti-war go-round was to agree up front on articles of coalition. Socialists and Democrats, for example, would put aside the question of top down vs bottom up politics, and march under the same banners. It made for a more united front, and more exposure on the Internet.

From David Sirota on Bluesky he nailed it
David Sirota @davidsirota.com - The Democratic Party won't be a real opposition until the people who destroyed it are no longer running it. Those people are terrible at everything — they can’t stop Trump, they can’t pass legislation, everyone hates them. But they are the absolute GOATs at remaining at the helm of the Titanic.

Re: Democrats Might Want to Put Her in Charge
One can go either way with David Hogg. Maybe the American people aren't ready for common sense gun laws. They might all vote for the other guy, who says it's OK to get on the subway packing an automatic rifle. Maybe some whackito has to barricade himself in a 9th floor window and kill several hundred pedestrians before someone finally gets traction by saying, "Sick of this yet?"
Otherwise it's self-immolation. Anyone with half an ounce of charisma gets driven out of the party, and they run the same tired people with the same tired ideas. Yeah, a lady in Brentwood with a well-fixed husband and a gorgeous mansion, she can give wine and cheese soirees and we'll win in a landslide.
Not.

Re: Democrats Might Want to Put Her in Charge
i dunno......
Hogg's support of gun control laws didn't really hurt him in my opinion. What got him in hot water with the DNC was his desire to unseat so called, "asleep at the wheel" Democrats. Democratic seats from older, longtime incumbents in safe, blue districts. And someone please correct me if i'm wrong..... He wanted financing from the DNC to go into his PAC, Leaders We Deserve to unseat those safe seats.
Mamdani may have worked in New York but probably wouldn't in say...... Alaska......How bout Arizona...

The frontrunner in the race appears to be 54-year-old former Pima County Supervisor Adelita Grijalva, who is the daughter of the late congressman.
She enjoys the backing of some of the state's top Democrats, including Sens. Mark Kelly and Ruben Gallego, state Attorney General Kris Mayes and former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords.
Grijalva is also supported by two top progressive champions – Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York – who both backed Mamdani in the New York City mayoral primary.

Re: Democrats Might Want to Put Her in Charge
Good points on Hogg. At his age he hasn't learned how to advocate change while keeping the old-boy network under control. If he treats as this as political education rather than just saying frack the Establishment, he could go somewhere.
Indeed there's a problem if Democrats limit their appeal to the big-city liberal vote, because they already have that. They do need a few pointers on how to reach people whose major concern might be what kind of rifle is best for duck season. The price of eggs was a good start, but they let that get blamed on the Democrats, and the jig was up.
A good place to start on gun control is guns in the schools. I know, you can't strip-search every kid every morning, but there has to be some way to keep them in Daddy's bedroom drawer.

Re: Democrats Might Want to Put Her in Charge
I like Hogg and have hope for him. The same kind of hope i had for Paul Wellstone and others we sent to Washington only to see them hit the wall of Realpolitik. Wellstone caught on after he settled down and became an effective politician. Same could be said for Franken...Bernie....AOC...the list goes on....
i've been seriously torn over this. One day i'm all in for the left wing progressives. The next day i'm leaning center left. Everyday i wonder just what the fuck the two are thinking at times.
I like Jamie D. about as much as anyone here but believe ignoring his point could come at a cost. Did Biden let it go to far to fast?

Re: Democrats Might Want to Put Her in Charge
The Democratic Party has room for anyone who's down with its extremely broad points of unity. That's a lot of people. Southern Democrats used to be rabid segregationists. The party isn't that big a tent any more, thank goodness, but it's still pretty broad.
Wellstone was fine until his plane fell out of the sky. Being dead after that, it negatively impacted his electability.
> Did Biden let it go too far too fast?
I don't have an answer for that one. My opinion is usually closer to his getting too old too fast, but that's subjective. He didn't do anything especially radical. He just looked and sounded like a re-animated cadaver on TV. Nixon had a vaguely similar problem, but being much younger, he had time to take Republican charisma training and fool the voters that he wasn't a slimeball. It also got a lot easier for Republicans after they were given ownership of the English language.

It's fairly impressive what happened in New York. Rumor has it to be the biggest turn out of the base. 40% more of the base that didn't come out for Kamala if you believe the rumor.
Here's the thing that bothers me.....From FDR* on i can't think of a Democratic president that didn't govern from the center.

Here’s where Democrats stand in polls at Trump’s 6-month mark
Recent polling is painting a mixed picture for Democrats as they look to chart a path forward in the wake of their loss to President Trump in November.
Trump’s approval rating remains comfortably underwater as he reaches the six-month mark back in office Sunday. But while Democrats have scored some notable victories in high-profile elections since then, they’ve been unable to pull away from the GOP as they hope to regroup for next year’s midterms.

That's because the Democrats don't offer any new ideas. They cling to the tired old ones. They need new people who will treat this mess as the opportunity that it is.

Re: Democrats Might Want to Put Her in Charge
A belief that it was time to support taking down Confederate monuments? Supporting the name change for Army bases? Recognizing the Trans community and allowing medical care therein? Pushing the right of asylum? Giving sanctuary to the less fortunate? Wanting DEI? Abolishing the police?
Might not be new ideas but the Dems sure did put a lot of faith in them.

Take Newton's Third Law of Motion and apply it to human nature.
Then put that into the vicious cycle we've been in ever since we crawled out of caves in the attempt at a shot for a "civilized" society.

Re: Democrats Might Want to Put Her in Charge
Yes, then Toynbee adapted Newton's laws of motion to history, then Hegel used it, as far as anyone can interpret his opaque writings, to put God into it, then Marx took God out of it again and substituted the proletariat, for better or worse. Dialectics/cycles/actions and reactions are now pretty much the basic understanding of what drives political history.
I've been around long enough to see it working in the real world. I'm completely sold on the idea. It's the only one that offers a common sense explanation for all this political back and forth every generation. It also offers the way out of our current mess.

From John Leguizamo This is perfect

Re: Democrats Might Want to Put Her in Charge
All good ideas, though some will never happen.
For a start, let's have an opposition party again. We are at a disadvantage, not having a parliamentary system. You work with the system you are given, not the one you'd prefer. There needs to be a shitstorm from the Democratic rank and file. We can't overthrow the whole system, but we can take on the collaborators.

In Trump's Redistricting Push, Democrats Find An Aggressive Identity And Progressives Are On Board
ATLANTA (AP) — Fight! Fight! Fight!
It’s not just Donald Trump’s mantra anymore. As the Republican president pushes states to redraw their congressional districts to the GOP’s advantage, Democrats have shown they are willing to go beyond words of outrage and use whatever power they do have to win.

Democrats alarmed over new data showing voters fleeing to GOP
Democrats are sounding the alarm on new data showing they are losing voters to Republicans across the country.
A devastating New York Times report Wednesday showed that of the 30 states that maintain voter registration records by political party, Democrats fell behind Republicans in all of them between the 2020 and 2024 elections.

How the Democrats keep copying the MAGA influencer playbook (and failing)
Hello and welcome to Regulator. Today, I will attempt to regulate my own apoplexy.
Recently, Wired published an article revealing the existence of a secret Democrat influencer incubator that trained liberal and progressive content creators to push coordinated messaging across their shared social media platforms and paid them handsomely to do so. The fallout has been chaotic, at least in the left-wing influencer world: creators are shanking their rivals for participating in the program, and the paid influencers are trying to defend themselves for taking the money. But the controversy around the Chorus Creator Incubator Program stems from the fact that it was so secret: participants had to sign contracts that gave Chorus control of their interview bookings, limit what they said about other creators or non-approved political figures, and were forbidden from even acknowledging they were part of the program.
