Finally, college football returns

Finally, college football returns

One of the best days of the year has finally arrived... at least as I see it.

From now until the end of December, every Saturday will feature college football games nationwide.

Don’t forget the new 12 team playoff for the national championship.

Whoopie doo. Good for you guys in the east but the west remains forgotten. U$C and UCLA are in the Big 10/12/whatever now, the Pac-12 is now really the Pac-2, the Rose Bowl is just another playoff round, and our games never get on TV unless mighty traditional rah rah U$C is playing. College football is still a big draw in the east, but the west was left for dead a decade ago.

I'll keep watching Formula 1. They have real world class sports outside the US southeast.

Enjoyed the Dutch Grand Prix. I like that track.

Yeah, I hope they keep it. It's like a roller coaster.

The new ownership never met a street circuit they didn't like, since they prefer races in tourist places where affiliates or subidiaries can get bigger pieces of the action. Control passed from Bernie Ecclestone, an upper-class twit and (in later days) a crook, to Liberty Media, another American multi-headed monster owned by yet another conservative billionaire..

At least the NFL has a decent TV contract. The lack thereof is what killed college football. Everything came to rely on time zones, and the west was out of luck because by the time it cooled off enough in late August or September to play a game, it was too late to air it in the east. The ACC, SEC, and (to a lesser extent) the Big 10/12/whatever had no such problems.

Well, the biggest problem was the NCAA loved the free labor and refused to allow the players to profit from their labor.

Going forward, it seems odd that just when everyone is learning that climate change is for real, football season keeps creeping ever earlier into the hottest part of the year. Apparently, this year several high school players have already died from heat related illnesses during practice in full pads.

I feel really sorry for the high school players. They just keep starting school earlier and earlier. We used to go back in late September, and in LA that's bad enough, but now it's in mid-August. They're scrambling for the funds to air condition the schools, but it's a huge undertaking, not to mention an extremely expensive one.

We had enough trouble concentrating in class. Practicing in full pads is unimaginable. The mind reels.

We cancelled most of outdoor sports throughout the week. Move a couple of varsity soccer games to 8:00pm so no sun. Three long water breaks per half.

Nothing like a Ferrari win at Monza to remind people what F1 is really about. Lots of parties in Italy tonight.

I've never thought i would see this early in NCAA Football but The Florida State Seminoles losing two games this early first against Georgia Tech in Ireland & now losing in their Home Opener against Boston College who saw this one coming but that's the beauty thing about sports always prepare for the unexpected in any sport regardless the outcome.

35 billion expected to be legally bet on the NFL this season.
No estimate on illegal betting but I believe it would be higher than 35 billion
