Gil Hodges, Buck O'Neil among 6 voted into Hall of Fame as Dick Allen finishes 1 vote short ... again

The Baseball Hall of Fame will officially have six more members via its committee voting, even as one of its best candidates missed the honor by the narrowest of margins. For a second time.

Here are the names, with a quick resume, announced by Hall of Fame president Josh Rawitch on Sunday via MLB Network:

Dick Allen should be a HOF’r. Saw him play in many games and was one of, if not the most, powerful hitter in the game - without steroids. I saw him become the 4th hitter in ballpark history to hit a home run to dead center over the 420 foot fence at Comisky Park. The ball landed I half way up into the bleacher seats and the front of the bleachers were easily 450 ft from home plate. Late summer. He crushed baseballs.

The old White Sox joke back then was when you called to ask what time the game starts the answer was “when can you get here”.
