Here are some of the findings:
In year one, the death rate per 100,000 people was 77.7 for Democrats, 58.8 for republicans, and 64.3 for independents.
In year two, the death rate per 100,000 people was 36.9 for Democrats, 51.3 for republicans, and 48 for Independents.
The article makes a good point on the reason why people did/didn't wear masks and avoid gatherings is because of the social bubble they live in. People are polarized by their political beliefs and they tend to socialize with those of their own ideological perspective. I think this is a valid point in that we tend to keep company with those we agree with and because of that we tend to accept and adopt the behavior of the group. So if one group opposes masks then most people in that group will reject mask use. If one group accepts vaccination then most people in that group will get vaccinate. When comparing the change in death rates between years one and two, the differences between the parties become even more stark. Democrats’ death rate dropped four times more than Republicans after vaccines became widespread.
The death rate among Democrats dropped by roughly 53 percent between years one and two. It dropped just 13 percent for Republicans and 25 percent for independent voters.
