LIV Golf CEO on Saudi Arabian killing of Khashoggi: ‘Look, I think everybody learns from their mistakes’

LIV Golf CEO Greg Norman said he believes the Saudi Arabian government has learned from its “mistakes,” in reference to human rights violations including the killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

“Look, I think everybody learns from their mistakes,” Norman told NewsNation’s Dan Abrams in an interview on Thursday. NewsNation is owned by Nexstar, which also owns The Hill.

A complete & total bust.

LIV Golf's CW debut scores low ratings; Nexstar CEO bullish

The LIV Golf League promised to be "golf but louder," but TV ratings for its season opener in Mexico last weekend suggested few people were listening or watching.

The CW's inaugural live broadcast of the LIV Golf League drew an average of 289,000 viewers and a 0.18 household rating on Saturday and Sunday. The opening round on Friday was only available to U.S. viewers on the CW app and the league's official website.

LIV Golf suffers major blow in PGA Tour fight as Judge makes key ruling

LIV Golf have been dealt another blow in their legal dispute with the PGA Tour, after a request to split their ongoing counterclaim into two separate cases was denied.

Since forming in the summer of 2022, LIV have found themselves locked in a battle with the PGA Tour. Following the Saudi-backed series maiden event 10 months ago, the PGA Tour made the decision to ban any player who chose to tee it up on breakaway circuit.

DP World Tour sanctions 26 players who competed for LIV Golf

Equipped with a favorable court ruling, the European tour has expanded its sanctions against players who competed in LIV Golf or Asian Tour events without permission over eight months.

The tour already has issued fines of 100,000 pounds ($125,000) to 17 players who played in the first two LIV Golf events outside London and Portland, Oregon.

I don't think anything will come out of this but it's a start.

Mickelson, LIV golfers interviewed in Justice Department's PGA Tour antitrust investigation

Phil Mickelson is one of a handful of players who have been interviewed with regard to the U. S. Department of Justice’s antitrust investigation of the PGA Tour. According to a New York Times report, Mickelson and fellow LIV Golf League players Bryson DeChambeau and Sergio Garcia were interviewed.

The Justice Department reportedly met with PGA Tour lawyers last week in Washington, but the timeline for the review remains unclear. Last July news broke that the DOJ was investigating whether the PGA Tour engaged in anticompetitive behavior against Greg Norman-led and Saudi Arabia-funded LIV Golf. The upstart circuit has long been criticized as another way for the Saudi government to sportswash its human rights record via its Public Investment Fund.

PGA Tour agrees to merge with Saudi-backed rival LIV Golf

The PGA Tour has agreed to merge with Saudi-backed rival LIV Golf in a deal that would see the competitors squash pending litigation and move forward as a larger golf enterprise.

The two entities signed an agreement that would combine the PGA Tour and LIV Golf’s commercial businesses and rights into a new, yet-to-be-named for-profit company. The agreement includes DP World Tour, also known as the European PGA Tour.

It's been a while since something completely surprised me like this. This is like Hulk Hogan joining the NWO.

Wow.

This might be the biggest sports-related story in many years and it was a total surprise to almost everyone.

The PGA guys have to be pissed about the money situation. Rightfully so.

It will be interesting to see what happens in the next few months.

It's a big one, all right.

One more reason for me to ignore professional golf.

As long as we're discussing the monetization of sports on all levels, F1 was on C-SPAN again. Toto Wolfe, the head of the Mercedes team, was at yet another of that network's beloved fat cat conferences, discussing the upside potential of another US right wing media company buying another major sport, lock stock and Verstappen, and turning it into another tourist ad for resort cities. (Miami and Vega$ were recently added to the calendar. Saudi Arabia and several of those slave-labor emirates were already aboard. Ditto Putin's leisure-class playground on the Red Sea, though it was dropped after he was bad in Ukraine.)

While they're jabbering about what a great thing they're creating, the following graphic is displayed:

MIAMI GP REVENUE DOWN 17% FROM LAST YEAR.

Senate Democrat calls on Saudi official to testify in probe of PGA Tour-LIV merger

Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) sent a letter to the leader of the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund (PIF) calling on him to testify in the Senate’s investigation into the proposed merger between the PGA Tour and the Saudi-owned LIV Golf.

The fund’s governor, Yasir Al-Rumayyan, has previously declined invitations to testify, citing his position as an official in the Saudi government.
