Since our sports leagues have embraced the casinos and our games are now constantly imploring us to bet as we watch the games, Pete Rose should be allowed back.
Pete Rose should be reinstated to the MLB...
Re: Pete Rose should be reinstated to the MLB...
Posthumously, maybe.
I am well aware that there are a lot of terrible people in the HOF. The one thing baseball has been consistent about is gambling.
If Rose hadn’t lied and then stubbornly clung to that lie I might feel differently but he wouldn’t just admit it.
That sports gambling is legal is, imo, irrelevant.

No, the MLB is no longer consistent on gambling. They and the other sports leagues makes millions upon millions with sponsorships from casinos and gambling sites. The games are nonstop commercials to bet on the games.bird wrote: ↑Mon Jan 02, 2023 11:57 am Posthumously, maybe.

When the majority of your sponsorships come from gambling interests, you no longer have a moral position on the subject.
I mean, whether gambling is legal or not is not within their perview. But whether they take casino money IS.

I've noticed the NFL is going in that direction too.

Rose’s actions were done long before what has happened with casinos. The issue was players/coaches betting on games. When it was illegal there obviously was the potential to impact games with decisions. Even now the potential has actually increased, imo. I don’t care that gambling is legal on sporting events personally. I do care that players/coaches can impact the results based upon wagers they may have made.gounion wrote: ↑Mon Jan 02, 2023 12:14 pm No, the MLB is no longer consistent on gambling. MLB’s position on players/coaches gambling on MLB games has always been consistent.
When Rose is dead then his ass can be put in the HOF. I have less than no use for him personally. While he does have the record for most hits, an astounding achievement, he never was and never will be the best hitter of all time. He hung on for 4 years with mediocre production just to beat Cobb’s, another screaming useless POS, record.
