Join Leonard Pitts Jr. and Bill Cosford Cinema manager Rene Rodriguez for a free screening and discussion of the 1992 Oscar-winning western 'Unforgiven' (1992).



Pitts began writing for the Miami Herald as the pop music critic in 1991. He later became a nationally syndicated columnist and won the Pulitzer Prize for commentary in 2004. He is a three-time recipient of the National Association of Black Journalists’ Award of Excellence, and was chosen NABJ’s 2008 Journalist of the Year. In 2001, he received the American Society of Newspaper Editors prestigious Award For Commentary Writing and was named Feature of the Year in the column writing division by Editor and Publisher magazine.



In 2002, the National Society of Newspaper Columnists awarded Pitts its inaugural Columnist of the Year award; in 2016, it named him to its Hall of Fame. In 2002 and in 2009, GLAAD Media awarded Pitts the Outstanding Newspaper Columnist award. In 2017, he was awarded the prestigious Missouri Honor Medal for “distinguished service to journalism.” He has received four honorary doctorates. He is also the author of four novels and a non-fiction book. He is retiring from the Herald after his farewell column, which will run Dec. 14.

Clint Eastwood returned to the western genre with this story about William Munny, a retired gunslinger who reluctantly takes on one last job in 1880s Wyoming with the help of his old partner Ned Logan (Morgan Freeman). Gene Hackman plays the violent sheriff who stands in their way. The movie won four Academy Awards: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor in a Supporting Role and Best Editing.
