Being retired is wonderful.

I used to be a Type-A personality and workaholic. Our career field was undermanned so it wasn't unusual for me to be working 60-80 hours a week. Even we we were caught up with work I'd come in on the weekends to try and get ahead of the week's work. I used to tell people I would never retire and and they're probably find me dead behind my desk. Then, in the mid-80s I went to an NCO Academy in Germany and one of the things they taught us was relaxation exercises. They began by having us place a temperature sensitive "dot" on our finger. The idea was when your under stress there's less blood flow to your fingers and the "dot" will be black. If the "dot" is blue then you have little stress. Well, my "dot" remained black throughout the day. Since it was a Friday, I decided to practice the relaxation exercises of the weekend and on Monday my "dot" was blue and remained that way. In 30-days I went from a Type A to a Type B personality. I did cut down on my hours to no more than 60-hours a week but that was because we were critically short of personnel.

Since retiring, I realized I don't miss working and all the politics and egos that go with it. This is my time and my time is good.

But yes, I live a stress-free life now, and there's nothing greater.

It was after another brush with the doctors that my wife let me take the summer off. Between her and the kids i haven't lifted a finger around here. No raking, no mowing, no painting, no cleaning the pool, nothing...........The whole summers been nothing but my favorite 3 hobbies. Reading, riding, and drinking.

Besides working out religiously, I've taken up learning the piano and understanding music theory. On a keyboard I bought a year ago! I've quit drinking - wasn't hardly drinking at all anyway. Beer was going stale in the fridge. Beer doesn't really fit into a Keto diet.

My fitness trainer is having me do things I never thought I'd be doing, but I love it. Surprised how this 64-year-old body is progressing quickly. I sure wish I had started when I retired...

Got a doc's appointment on Thursday - but did the blood work for it last Thursday - and got the results already.

Last June, my A1C (diabetes number) was 7.0. The A1C measures your blood sugar over the last 3 months.

There’s more to life than making money. Many people volunteer. The thing is, retirement means that YOU are in charge, not a boss. No stress. I get 8 solid hours of sleep a night, and plenty of exercise. Stress and lack of sleep are two things that shorten your life span.

I’m so glad I retired, and I’m lucky that I don’t have to worry about money.

But one thing I’d be worried about is always having to switch sleeping schedules and driving all night several times a week, only to go back to driving days, back and forth. That’s not good on a 65-year-old man.

I didn't realize how much stress I was under until it was gone.

Now I get a good eight hours sleep most every night, and I don't have any stress at all. That's what REALLY makes life fun for me at this point in my life.

Being a Type B personality isn't about being lazy or not driven to accomplish something. It's more about balancing your life and putting things into perspective. For me, I learned more patience, able to better analyze a situation, better time management, how to be better organized, and how to better work and lead people towards a goal. When I was a Type A personality, it was always go, go, go and I had little time for myself. Once I changed to a Type B personality, I still accomplished all my work goals with less stress and I was able to relax more.

Remember when i had to admit old age and humidity didn't set well with me anymore? The same thing can be said about the cold nowadays.

The temps are diving fast here but we're still hoping for a few more days of riding. If ya can snowmobile at 0 degrees we should be able to ride at 40 degrees....Right?

I’ve had friends with snow suits and such and the ONLY thing that kept them from riding was slick roads.

Of course, they were all certifiably insane, as far as I’m concerned.

In my younger days, I raced motocross, and was pretty good.

My junior year of high school, my car broke down and all I had was my Kawasaki to ride to school, five miles. I rode on snow, I rode on ice, and I didn’t have heavy winter gear, just some leather gloves with cloth inners that my cousin brought home from the military. That spring I sold the bike and didn’t own another until I had one for six months or so with a windjammer fairing, and I rode it on nice days.

It was destroyed in a hailstorm, and that was my last motorcycle.

Snow? Snow? What's that? The last time we had snow in Coronado, Ca. was in 1967. One of the things I like about living here is no snow. I've lived in places where it snowed. In Germany, I had two sets of tires; one set (4) of snow tires for winter and one set (4) of regular tires. In the late 80s, we sent one of our airmen to pickup some meds from Lakenheath AFB, England, about 50 miles away. It was snowing and when he didn't by late afternoon I drove there looking for him in case he got into an accident. I didn't find him but on the way back it was snowing so heavy I could barely see the road. During that same period, I new an airman and his wife who had to be into work around 5:30 in the morning. It had snowed so much the snow on the roads was up his bumper. As he was driving to work he noticed there was a snow plow behind him and the airman was in fact plowing the road for the snow plow driver.

I'll stay here wearing shorts well into December thinking of those who have to shovel their driveways or remove the snow off their cars. Enjoy the snow!

We don’t get a lot of snow here in my part of Tennessee. Just a couple of inches last year. They don’t expect much this year. It’s been quite dry here this year, too. In the past, if it snows, we just don’t leave until it melts. But this year I work out regularly, and my wife has things going on too, so we may have to get out if it snows, so I may but a snow shovel just in case. We’ll see if they have them at Costco next time we go.

1967 Bite me. This is where i'm supposed to man up and defend our love of all 4 seasons. Ya, screw that. Winters are getting old.

And riding your Kawey 5 miles to school wasn't a bit crazy?

Ah to be young and dumb again. i remember riding my 350 Kawasaki into November and even to my girl friends X mas party one year. Rode that thing into the ground and when it was no longer street worthy i stripped it down and made a dirt bike out of her. That'd get some laughs. Ah good times.
