With the arrays of photon generating equipment on the backs of cars getting ever larger and more artsy, I'll believe anything.
Check out the cost of replacing the batteries in a Tesla while you're at it.

Re: Rear taillight Replacement on an EV Hummer
Given the concept behind a hummer, i'd question why the hell anyone would pay for such a thing.

Re: Rear taillight Replacement on an EV Hummer
Tesla batteries are currently 13 to 15k but, that number is misleading as we are probably 5+ years before people will have to start replacing them. By then the cost should be less. Plus, i suspect replacing them isnt the same as an LS swap and if for 15k you can get another 5 or more years service from your car it is in retrospect a reasonable cost.
A better example would be a Prius where my friend with the junk yard has 2 Prius because the car wasnt worth the cost of a new battery, [about $4000]

If you can afford a Hummer the cost probably won’t cause you to blink. Plus it’s covered by the warranty, no?

If they're charging that much to civilians think how much are they charging the military.Glennfs wrote: ↑Thu Oct 27, 2022 7:24 pm https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a4161 ... expensive/

Presumably military vehicles do not have sophisticated computer-driven animation systems in their tail lights. I'll bet the radios are expensive, though.

Re: Rear taillight Replacement on an EV Hummer
I had to get certified on driving a Humvee before deploying to Croatia in 1995. It's nothing close to being like the Hummer which wannabees own. The Humvee is a bare-bones vehicle so the cost for a tail light is, I hope, cheaper.

Re: Rear taillight Replacement on an EV Hummer
I doubt the Humvee has fancy tail lights. These are something of a fad, at least in LA. Frankly, I find them distracting. Even the new Porsches have them, and they make the cars look stupid. Porsche buyers lay out big bucks for the company's high-performance heritage, not bells and whistles.
I made that crack about the radio, because most of the military Humvees I see have tactical 2-way communication radios, and they look like they meet the usual US and/or NATO milspecs. That means they are built well, they have all the fancy new transmitting modes, and they are expensive. Not like the Russian crap made by Putin's corrupt buddy.
Also I've noticed that one of the other optional extras on the military version of this vehicle can fire on full auto.

I've seen Hummers driving around here but I haven't paid any special attention to the brake lights. Are they overly bright?ZoWie wrote: ↑Mon Oct 31, 2022 12:10 pm I doubt the Humvee has fancy tail lights. These are something of a fad, at least in LA. Frankly, I find them distracting. Re: Rear taillight Replacement on an EV Hummer
The reason Hummer tail lights cost $3500 ($7000 for two) is that they are huge, and each one has its own processor and advanced digital animation system to make them blink in fancy patterns.
Like I said, these sort of tail lights are very chic in LA, and I hate them. They're huge, they're bright, and they're distracting. Currently it's a Thing to have the lights wrap around the whole back of the car, as on at least one of the new Porsche Lite cars they sell to LA phonies who think an SUV or crossover with a Porsche crest and loud pipes is a sports car. I can't complain, because the numbnut wannabes in This Town snap them up by the hundreds, and it subsidizes that company's good rides for car freaks.

That's well more than I paid for my entire Ford Ranger.
I like it, but it's on its way to become a Flintstone vehicle as the the floor pan rusts away.
My Elantra had no rust issues. It did, however, have various suspension issue.
I'd fix the issues but I'm not so good with bodywork.
