I Voted, Have You?

Post by Number6 »

Yesterday, Oct 20th, I completed my mail-in ballot and put it in the drop off ballot box at city hall. The only issues I had were a couple of the ballot propositions. The local school board race was a little harder in that there were three seats open for a four-year term with about eight candidates running. I had two of the candidates locked-in and the third seat was held by an incumbent. I've attended a candidate forum as well as read candidates' answers for the last four weeks in the local paper. I was torn between the incumbent and one other candidate, whom I agreed with, and thinking back to the forum the incumbent appeared tired and bored so I voted for her opponent.

Anyway, my vote is cast and I'll check on Monday to see if it's been accepted by the Registrar of Voters. One good thing about voting early, candidates get voting lists of those who've voted and mark them off their mailing/call lists so I won't get as many campaign mailings and calls.

How about you, have you voted?

My wife and I voted Wednesday, the first day of early voting in Tennessee. I had set up machines at several early vote sites, then went home and got my wife and we went downtown to the elections office and voted there while I signed my time card.

It was a quick ballot, all we had were Governor, House of Representatives, State Senate and State House. I’ve met all the Dem candidates.

Then we had five State Constitution Amendments, one of which, of course, was Right-to-Work. It’s already the law in the state, but they are bound and determined that no one can ever change it.

But yes, our two votes are in the bank.

I prefer voting on election day when I can. Always nice to chat with the poll workers. I'll vote in person absentee when I am out of town on election day.

I don’t know if you have early voting, but if you do, you can always chat with the poll workers then. I’ll be busy Election Day, as a poll worker.

Alas, you won’t get to chat with me.

I prefer to vote as early as possible, so that if something happens or I get sick, I’ve got that vote in the bank.

Early voting starts Monday, and my campus is an early voting location - how convenient.

So: Soon. (TM).

Technically, not early voting. We have in person absentee voting that started on September 23 this year. Go to the Auditor's Office in the courthouse and request a ballot. Quick and easy.

I prefer voting as late as possible. New information about candidates can always change things.

I have voted by mail already and the county has received it. I prefer voting in person, however, first our voting location was moved from just off the bus line to a mile and a half away from it and second, my work schedule would not have allowed me to vote on election day.

I have not voted.

We are currently in the midst of municipal elections, Monday in fact.

I should have voted already because the effort is negligible. We have internet voting now.

I should do that tomorrow.

I got an email as well as a phone call this morning from the California Secretary of State saying my ballot was received and counted. So I know the first election returns in the country will include my ballot.

Next week for sure.
However it is a little redundant seeing how my state and my district is just like California.

I voted early today. I always research the judicial races, I did not retain the judge who had a rep for being a Leonard Leo/Federalist stooge ... also checked LWV recommendations on the ballot amendments.

I saw two folks sitting by the drop box outside the polling place, asked them if anybody tried to bomb the box, they laughed.

That wasn't a very smart thing to say. You are lucky they didn't hold you for authorities.

I used to teach my students you never joke with anyone in authority. For example at a border check station if you joke that you have 1 million pounds of pot you and your vehicle will get searched.
If you joke that you are from Mars you will get detained.
If you say you have a tank in your bunk you will get searched.
I strongly advise nobody joke with anyone in authority and especially people who aren't in authority but believe themselves to be

I understand your point, thinking back on it probably not a good idea. There are warnings at airports, never joke about having a bomb. The Secret Service will detain you for "joking" about trying to assassinate the president. There has been some "joker" in this area claiming there are bombs at schools, that is also a crime.

I understand - not from personal experience but I have known other truckers - yeah, you don't joke at truck weigh stations/stops either about what's in your truck. Never a good idea, and I get that.

That said -- I didn't say I had a bomb or was threatening to use one. I wouldn't have done that. I wasn't even claiming someone else might be about to do it. But you are right, if they didn't get I was joking about Marco Rubio (which I figured they would), it could have been misperceived.

I am always extremely polite and respectful to poll workers. My Mom, may she RIP, used to do it in Hallandale, before mobility issues made it almost impossible. They are the volunteer engine of democracy. Whatever might be frustrating me about the process, no reason to take it out on them. And it really upsets me there are morons out there harassing them, or worse making death threats. :|

There may be election fraud, but it's not THOSE folks doing it.

There's a box about a minute's drive from our house. We are going to use it, probably today. We both spent about an hour each plowing through the typically formidable LA County ballot, 6 pages of it, all full of judges and school board members you've never heard of. Not to mention many many state and municipal propositions, usually described on the ballot using language so deliberately simplified as to be essentially meaningless. Actually, though, it would almost always suffice just to use a boilerplate, "Do you want to increase your taxes and/or legalize something that some well-funded special interest wants, all the time thinking you've righted a wrong in the law?"

Again this year, it's all mail-in or street deposit, then polling stations later. The large, well-armored boxes tend to be at the entrances to city facilities which long ago installed CCTV cameras for general security reasons. It's a good system, which is probably why so many Republicans want to get rid of it.

And now it is a teacher? Trust me, I dont even want to know.

As to election fraud, Nevada is setting the tone for the rest of the cons, just dont allow any democrat to win, no matter what the votes are.

Just voted straight republican ticket except where it was non partisan. On those everyone was unopposed except one on that one I voted for my neighbors cousin.

I also voted for two small tax increases to help out water and soil conservation

I voted Friday afternoon in downtown St Petersburg. I was by far the youngest person in the place. It felt kinda good. Took me longer to drive and park than it did to vote. In and out in less than 15 minutes.
