Texas dissents, where the majority decided that sodomy laws were unconstitutional. Now, it's funny that in his dissent in Obergefell, Clarence Thomas whined on and on that "liberty" meant freedom FROM government intrusion, NOT the granting of government largess, i.e. a marriage license.

But in Lawrence, he joined Scalia in this screed:

State laws against bigamy, same-sex marriage, adult incest, prostitution, masturbation, adultery, fornication, bestiality, and obscenity ... every single one of these laws is called into question by today's decision.

He further argued:

If moral disapprobation of homosexual conduct is 'no legitimate state interest' for purposes of proscribing that conduct ... what justification could there possibly be for denying the benefits of marriage to homosexual couples exercising '[t]he liberty protected by the Constitution?'

THIS is what the right thinks of homosexuality. It's an abomination, the Bible tells us, and gays SHOULD be put to death.
This is also why a bunch of states never took those stipulations out of their constitutions. The hope is for the SCOTUS laws to be overturned. Mississippi never officially abolishing slavery till like 2015 is a related ploy. :problem:

This is coming up in the midterms. Two of these fascist gubernatorial candidates reference the pre-Obergefell "one man one woman" marriage laws that are still in print...and of course, their precious religio-fascist "beliefs."

The front-runner to challenge Whitmer is a Jan 6ther criminal. :problem:

This is how far-gone this country is.

All 5 Michigan Republican gubernatorial candidates stated during tonight’s debate that same sex couples should not have the right to get married — this came up in the context of what civil rights cases should SCOTUS overturn in post-Roe era.

Alabama cites abortion ruling in transgender medication case
https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/alaba ... ar-AAZ2QCo
Oh watch their heads explode when a trans person is raped, ends up pregnant, and is seeking abortion.

These aren't abstract, fringe scenarios - the rape part has happened to an aquaintence, and thanks god they TMK did not have to deal with a pregnancy on top of it.

Trans rights, overall LGBTQ rights, the rightwing campaigns on the backs on trans young people, forcing trans women into the men's section of prisons and immigrant detention centers, the right to not be forcibly sterilized by the governent...these are all tied in to overall reproductive rights.

And this is why white cons and their minions are very threatened, to the point of violence, by the idea of reproductive freedom.
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — Days after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that states can prohibit abortion, Alabama has seized on the decision to argue that the state should also be able to ban gender-affirming medical treatments for transgender youths.

The case marks one of the first known instances in which a conservative state has tried to apply the abortion ruling to other realms, just as LGBTQ advocates and others were afraid would happen.

Critics have expressed fear that the legal reasoning behind the high court ruling could lead to a rollback of decisions involving such matters as gay marriage, birth control and parental rights.
It's not that we were afraid of it.

They're quite explicit about their intent.

The state is asking a federal appeals court to lift an injunction and let it enforce an Alabama law that would make it a felony to give puberty blockers or hormones to transgender minors to help affirm their gender identity.

In its historic ruling last Friday, the U.S. Supreme Court said terminating a pregnancy is not a fundamental constitutional right because abortion is not mentioned in the Constitution and is not “deeply rooted in this nation’s history and tradition."

In a brief filed Monday, the Alabama attorney general's office argued similarly that gender transition treatments are not “deeply rooted in our history or traditions," and thus the state has the authority to ban them. Alabama contends such treatments are dangerous and experimental, a view disputed by medical organizations.

[snip][end]

You know what is also not "deeply rooted in our history or traditions?" Airplanes. It's time to ban all airports.

It's obvious that this conservative principle is once again being invoked to stop social progress.
Airplanes, the internet, Viagra, indoor plumbing...

Fact is, these people need to be nailed to the wall about their intentions, which is re-establishing post-Reconstruction to midcentury whites-rule.

That's all this is about. Pity the white-ethnics, not-white-enoughs, and not-whites who are on board with this agenda. Like Ernst Röhm, they'll be the first to go.

I suspect the USA will drop down the list of many freedom indices. Already not in the top 10.

For a country that really, really seems to pride itself on "freedom", you need to do better and I'd really like to see you guys do better. We all do, I think.

NEWS: The Texas Supreme Court has let the state's 1925 abortion ban partially go into effect.

The ban was subject to a TRO preventing its enforcement through at least July 12, but that is now partially stayed.

Texas had filed their reply brief this morning, and I just want to share this so that everyone can see how Texas's lawyers for the state are now arguing these sorts of cases:
