Just curious. Can you explain that a bit?Motor City wrote: ↑Mon Jun 27, 2022 2:27 pm what's at the heart of this is not life or religion its dehumanization.
Re: Public opinion on Roe and SCOTUS
Pretty simple. It's being told you're the life support system for another being, and what happens to you doesn't matter, whether it ruins your health or threatens your life. You MUST carry it, and you have no choice in the matter.
If men could get pregnant, there'd be more abortion clinics than 7/11's.

And.here.we.go. Some forms of stem cell and other research are soon to be halted ... again.
Pa. House puts Pitt's funding on the line unless it stops its fetal tissue research
https://www.post-gazette.com/news/polit ... 2206270082
HARRISBURG — If the University of Pittsburgh wants its annual $151 million appropriation from the state, it will have to stop its fetal tissue research.
Pennsylvania House Republicans amended this requirement into the state’s appropriation bill for its four state-related universities by a 108-92 vote. Three GOP members, including Rep. Lori Mizgorski, R-Shaler, joined Democrats in opposing the amendment.
[snip]
Criticism for Pitt came to a head this year, with House Republicans officially drawing a line in the sand Monday to block the university from receiving its funding unless it ceases its fetal tissue research, just as the Supreme Court overturned abortion as a federal constitutional right under Roe v. Wade.
[snip][end]
This fetal tissue research does not utilize tissue from elective abortions. But the zealots, I guess, are on the march, and I suspect IVF procedures will be next.
Stopping research with stem cells that could save lives ... more of that being "pro life" stuff, I guess.

Roe v. Wade reaction: St. Louis doulas worry about maternal mortality rates increasing in minority communities
Its really about the violence regression and harm that a small portion of this country has an appetite for inflicting that is no longer satisfied by the mass shootings, the poverty, wars of choice, the lack of say in democracy. They wont be satisfied with this either it will only leave them wanting more."Our Black and brown communities, our immigrant community, disabled people, trans and all of our LGBTQ folks, this is going to affect you the most," she said. "I worry so much about Black and brown communities now."
Redditt fears the ramifications this reversal could have.
"Research has already shown people who are less likely to access options for parenthood, they live in poverty longer, they have less access to childcare, we have already systems that are broken," she said.
Already, Missouri's data shows:
Black pregnant moms are four times more likely to die than white women
Black women living in Missouri also experience a higher rate of severe maternal morbidity (220 per 10,000 live births) than white women (89 per 10,000 live births). This is comparing Severe Maternal Morbidity (SMM), which is a term for unexpected outcomes of labor and delivery. These acute conditions may directly cause maternal deaths and/or have a significant impact on a woman’s short, or long-term health, and may include blood transfusions, renal failures, and hysterectomies.
Redditt said she believes these numbers stem from institutionalized racism and biased healthcare over the decades.

I get this is a highly emotional issue for a great many people. The debate isn’t over just as it wasn’t over when Roe was first decided. Personally I’m not sure what the answer is. I’m not sure that such an answer exists that will please or satisfy everyone.

What an abortion ban does is make the life of the mother subservient to the two-celled creature. Her life is now expendable, and she no longer has any rights.

Now you guys are just banning library books altogether.
When have you guys ever cared about life, except to exploit the already-born?

It's dehumanizing to have others decide what you can do with your own body. It's about as "government between you and your doctor" as you can get. I get it, Catholics have grabbed the issue and are running with it. Of course, a large force of anti-abortion are anti-abortion because they feel they're supposed to oppose all that liberals stand for. Killing babies, they exclaim.
Yet...
If you're a Mississippi speaker Philip Gunn, as 12-year-old being raped by her father should be forced to carry to term because every life is valuable. Unless, I guess, you're on death row.
A nearby city is having a rally tonight to protest the SCROTUS decision.

When Roe happened very few cared, concern was manufactured as part of a way to elect cons and take money from their idiot followers.
I sigh in your general direction.

Florida, Kentucky judges block states from enforcing abortion bans
https://www.reuters.com/legal/governmen ... 022-06-30/
June 30 (Reuters) - Judges in Florida and Kentucky on Thursday moved to block those states from enforcing bans or restrictions on abortion after the U.S. Supreme Court last week overturned the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision that had established a nationwide right to it.
In Tallahassee, Florida, Circuit Court Judge John Cooper said he would grant a petition from abortion rights groups to temporarily put on hold a state law that would bar abortions after the 15th week of pregnancy.
In Kentucky, Jefferson County Circuit Judge Mitch Perry issued a temporary restraining order preventing the state from enforcing a ban passed in 2019 and triggered by the Supreme Court's decision.
[snip]
State courts in Texas, Louisiana and Utah have also temporarily blocked bans in those states since last week, and abortion providers are seeking similar relief in states including Idaho, Ohio, Mississippi and West Virginia.

...The impact of the court’s decision will have far-reaching mental health challenges for a range of people, experts say.
There is foremost the newfound stress of worrying what to do about an unwanted pregnancy for those living in states that restrict abortion access, such as Oklahoma, South Dakota and Alabama.
And additional anxieties loom for pregnant people who feel compelled to bring pregnancies to term that might be the result of rape, incest or abusive relationships. See also a ripple effect of depression from parent to newborn child, both from a psychological and physiological standpoint......

New abortion ban bill introduced in SC Senate would prohibit anyone from telling a pregnant woman that she could go to another state for an abortion, prohibit anyone from driving her there, and prohibits a website from providing info about abortion. This cannot stand.

Yeah, this is ridiculous. So apparently telling someone an actual fact in SC ("there are abortion clinics in other states and you can go there and have one") is illegal under this bill. Bye bye freedom of speech.
As for not being allowed to drive her there ... Commerce Clause and P & I. Nope.

Aside from the obvious constitutional issues with each one of those points, how would they expect to police it?ProfX wrote: ↑Mon Jul 04, 2022 8:11 am New abortion ban bill introduced in SC Senate would prohibit anyone from telling a pregnant woman that she could go to another state for an abortion, prohibit anyone from driving her there, and prohibits a website from providing info about abortion. If I were to set up a website providing this information, what would they do about it?
Re: Public opinion on Roe and SCOTUS
I personally believe most people are opposed to the SCOTUS ruling but, are more concerned about other issues like the economy.
So if the democratic party makes social issues their main focus and issue it will cost them on election day.
What they need to do again imo is focus primarily on the kitchen table issues win elections. Then fix social issues when they have the power to do so.
