Ballots due in recall election of Shady Cove mayor
Ballots for a heated recall campaign against Shady Cove Mayor Lena Richardson are due by 8 p.m. Tuesday.
The recall campaign centers around petitioners’ allegations of excessive spending on legal fees, poor management of the city’s day-to-day business and delayed council appointments. Richardson, meanwhile, told the Rogue Valley Times in a recent interview that the recall, which she called “a waste of taxpayers’ money,” stemmed from the firing of former City Manager Michele Parry.

Waldport voters rebuff attempts to recall all six council members, election results show Monday night
WALDPORT – All six Waldport council members easily fended off an attempt to recall them by a group aligned with the city’s mayor, according to the first release of special election results Monday night.
Although 95 percent of ballots were counted Monday, the vote-counting will stretch into next week so the Lincoln County clerk’s office can account for ballots picked up at 8 p.m. or mailed over the weekend and Monday.

Troy Jackson, a former Graham Platner ally, well-positioned to win Maine Democrats’ nomination to face Sen. Susan Collins
Former Maine Senate President Troy Jackson has built an overwhelming advantage in the short and unusual contest to replace Graham Platner and take on Republican Sen. Susan Collins in a must-win race for Democrats in their bid for control of the US Senate.
Delegates on Jackson’s slate won about 300 of the 319 slots up for grabs Saturday during the first day of county-level delegate selection for the July 25 convention to pick a new nominee.

Live Results: Arizona midterm primary elections
WASHINGTON (AP) — Arizona Republicans will choose a nominee in a state primary Tuesday to challenge Democratic Gov. Katie Hobbs in November. Voters across the state will also set the general election matchups for competitive U.S. House seats and for a full range of state and local offices.
The Arizona governorship is a top takeover opportunity for Republicans in a midterm environment where voters historically have punished the party occupying the White House. The eventual winner, along with his or her statewide political organization, could play an important role in the 2028 presidential campaign, as Arizona is once again expected to be a critical battleground.

We have to get this right MAGA will most definitely pay a huge price
He won office in Louisiana after a murder exoneration. Maga wouldn’t let the election stand
The grand old criminal courthouse in New Orleans, encased by towering neoclassical columns, is a building that has altered the course of Calvin Duncan’s life at many junctures. First, in 1985, when he was sentenced to life without parole for a murder he did not commit. Then, over decades, as he fought to access his vital case records and was denied by judges the chance to relitigate his case. Later, in January 2011, he appeared here and accepted a deal that finally secured his freedom.
And then, in April of this year, on the steps outside, he placed his hand on a Bible and swore an oath that would elevate him to elected office, having won the race to become the court’s clerk – its chief administrative officer.

Democrats Want a DCCC Reset After Three High-Profile Losses
Some House Democrats want the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee to rethink its primary strategy after its third high-profile loss this season.
The 2026 election is far from over, but Democrats are already making specific demands for the DCCC to consider in future cycles: The committee needs to improve how it communicates with members, find ways to take more feedback and stop interfering in Democratic primaries.

Democrats select South Carolina for their first presidential nominating contest in 2028 election
WASHINGTON — South Carolina was selected Friday to once again lead off the Democratic Party's 2028 presidential nominating schedule, most likely cementing a dramatic break from decades of tradition by keeping Iowa off the top of the calendar and elevating more racially diverse states.
The decision by the Democratic National Committee's Rules and Bylaws Committee will need to be approved by the full organization, which is scheduled to meet in August.

Two Democrats advance to a runoff in the special election to succeed late Rep. David Scott
Marcye Scott, the daughter of the late Rep. David Scott, and fellow Democrat Everton Blair advanced to a runoff Tuesday in the Georgia special election to fill the final months of Scott’s term in Congress, NBC News projects.
The two candidates finished atop a five-candidate, all-party special primary election for Georgia’s 13th District. But since no one got majority support, the race will go one more round.

Missouri residents cast ballots during the Aug. 4 primary election and voted for much more than just local and state political races.
Four constitutional amendments were on every Missouri voter's ballot. One of the most controversial of the amendments, Amendment 5, proposed an overhaul of state tax policy by requiring a phase-out of state income tax while allowing lawmakers to increase taxes on goods and services.

It's becoming clear that, at least in urban areas, Democratic voters want action, not vague assurances that everything's going to be fine.
