North Dakota Democrats endorse several statewide candidates

North Dakota Democrats rallied for a turnaround Saturday, endorsing several candidates for statewide office to take on Republicans in November.

The Democratic-NPL Party endorsed state Sen. Ryan Braunberger of Fargo for secretary of state, Scot Kelsh of Fargo and John Pederson of Mayville for Public Service Commission and Tim Lamb of Grand Forks for attorney general. The party also issued a letter of support for Tracy Foss of Hatton for superintendent of public instruction.

Comedian Jon Stewart on Thursday said that despite Democrats making major gains following Tuesday’s election, he thinks the party is still unpopular and in disarray.

On the latest episode of his podcast “The Weekly Show,” Stewart told MSNBC host Chris Hayes and “Pod Save America” co-host David Plouffe that he thinks “Democrats are still a mess.”

Dems plan probes into companies, colleges that cooperated with Trump

House and Senate Democrats are starting to have preliminary discussions to coordinate potential congressional investigations into companies, colleges and law firms in the next Congress, multiple sources told Axios.

Why it matters: The early strategizing on how Democrats plan to use the investigative power of committees, including subpoenas, is another indication of the party's growing confidence of victory in November.

The Nation - What if Democrats Didn’t Suck? With Morris Katz

Welcome to Fighting Fascism, a new podcast hosted by The Nation. In this podcast, longtime political organizers Aaron Regunberg and Jonathan Smucker and their normie friend Matt DaSilva discuss the history of fascist takeovers, the conditions enabling them, and the resistance movements that have defeated them, to find lessons for today’s fights against Trump, MAGA, and the growing threat of modern authoritarianism. Want to piss off fascists? This is the podcast for you.

Today Aaron, Matt, and Jonathan are joined by Morris Katz, lead strategist for Zohran Mamdani and Graham Platner, to talk about why the Democratic Party sucks so much and how we can make it suck less. Topics include lessons from Zohran’s campaign, our favorite Morris ads, the importance of naming a villain, 2028 prognostication, and that one time three years ago when Aaron and Morris had to pull a sunken canoe out of a pond.

New York Democrats are looking beyond the battleground districts

Amid a hot streak of overperformances across the country and President Donald Trump’s slipping approval rating, New York Democrats are wondering: Why not try to flip a seat that Trump won by 20 points?

Unpopular moves from the Trump administration now have Democrats in the Empire State putting their political capital into a race in deep-red terrain — the latest indicator of how bullish they feel heading into the midterms, which will determine control of the House.

Democratic National Committee (DNC) Chair Ken Martin said the party is “planning for everything” ahead of the midterms.

Martin acknowledged polling favoring Democrats in the upcoming elections during a Saturday morning appearance on MS NOW’S “The Weekend,” but he warned that President Trump could try to “suppress the vote.”

He's already started, as have the Republicans in Congress and most state houses. They're proposing all kinds of bills to reduce turnout and discourage early or mail voting. I get a definite idea that they're scared.

All the love to Barney and his family

Barney Frank, entering hospice care, embarks on a final act: Taking on the left

Former Rep. Barney Frank, a liberal icon who was a key architect of the landmark Wall Street regulations Democrats enacted in the wake of the 2008 financial crisis, has entered hospice care at his home in Maine. And as one of his last acts, he is preparing to release a book repudiating his party’s left flank.

A champion of liberal causes during his 32 years representing Massachusetts in the House, Frank says progressive Democrats have “embraced an agenda that goes beyond what’s politically acceptable.”

Congressional Progressive Caucus unveils midterm agenda

The Congressional Progressive Caucus on Wednesday unveiled their new agenda ahead of the midterm elections to demonstrate a path for how the Democratic Party can tackle cost of living issues facing millions of Americans.

The caucus dubbed their plan the “New Affordability Agenda,” a legislative package that would focus on making costs behind common kitchen table issues more affordable. The bills “would also ban companies from using personal data and AI to set prices, guarantee every full time worker paid vacation time, increase overtime pay, and abolish Super PACs,” the lawmaking bloc said in a statement.

Read the DNC’s 2024 autopsy obtained by CNN

CNN is publishing a copy of a report into why Democrats lost the 2024 presidential election conducted at the request of Democratic National Committee Chair Ken Martin.

This version of the report – better known as the 2024 autopsy – was written by Democratic strategist Paul Rivera. The DNC withheld the report until presented with CNN’s reporting about much of its contents. The copy published by CNN includes annotations in red that the DNC added to its version of Rivera’s report. CNN has not modified the report and does not vouch for the accuracy of any statements within the report or the DNC’s annotations.

CNN won't load until I give them information that I don't feel like giving them. Most news sites now either don't load or only partially load until you agree to let them steal data from your computer. Yes, it is Trump's fault, because his war doubled the price of oil and put everything into maximum inflation mode. Everyone's getting greedy.

With the story unread, I of course have no comment.

I will note that right now SoCal is in a fire mode more familiar in October, and we are seeing (and smelling) the consequences of the lack of a winter here this year. Fire fighters are also going on the Nooz complaining about drump's budget cuts severely depleting Federal fire fighting capability this year, which certainly explains why there seem to be fewer aircraft on some of these fires. The one on Santa Rosa Island, a federal preserve, isn't being fought at all, as far as I can see. They evacuated the island (very few people) and they appear OK with it taking the whole island and the national park resources on it.

It was started by a distress flare from a fishing boat. Really. Some joker with a flare gun burned the place to the ground. Just like in the song. Smoke on the water, a fire in the sky. (Cue guitar riff)

I'm sick of these non-winters and their catastrophic consequences, and I feel like every time someone dies the blood is on the hands of Congressional and Executive conservatives. They said climate wasn't an issue. Oops.

House Democrats launch new anti-corruption caucus targeting Trump-era ethics concerns

As lawmakers grow increasingly frustrated with President Donald Trump’s planned $1.8 billion lawsuit settlement fund and his thousands of stock trades totaling hundreds of millions dollars, a trio of House Democrats is launching a new caucus aimed at fighting malfeasance in government.

The new End Corruption Caucus — details of which were shared first with MS NOW — is launching at the direction of Reps. Jason Crow, D-Col., Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., and Mike Levin, D-Calif., spanning the party’s centrist to progressive wings.

Democrats eyeing investigations, and perhaps prosecutions, of Trump officials

House Democrats want 2029 to be the year of reckoning for Trump administration officials.

Democrats have long accused top members of President Trump’s team of violating laws across a wide range of activities, from deadly immigration raids and strikes on alleged drug boats, to financial self-dealing and targeting Trump’s political enemies for prosecutions.

Dana Milbank: Democrats Are Drafting Plans to Govern Like Trump in 2029

President Trump now says “there are no limits” to his power, and, over the last week or so, his administration has behaved accordingly:

His acting head of national intelligence, installed without Senate confirmation and despite having no national-security experience, has begun a mass firing of career intelligence professionals.

Texas Democrats leave convention united in effort to end GOP's 30-year hold on Texas

Thousands of people filled the stands of the Hilliard Center Arena in Corpus Christi for the Texas Democratic Convention's closing rally Saturday, where Sen. Bernie Sanders made the final keynote speech.

“We know that when we stand together as one people, the oligarchs and all of their money will never defeat it,” said Sanders, a Vermont Democrat. “Let’s go out and do it.”

Crowd erupts as Biden slams Trump over ballroom, arch and reflecting pool: ‘Whoa, what a loser’

Former President Joe Biden has launched a fiery attack on President Donald Trump, dubbing his successor a “loser” for his ongoing beautification projects of the nation’s capital, some of which have become mired in controversy.

Biden was met with loud cheering as he listed Trump’s “vanity projects” during a speech at a state Democratic Party gala in Hanover, Maryland, Saturday evening.

The Race to Become the Democratic Left’s Next Power Firm

Behind a string of recent leftist victories in Democratic primaries across the country is a growing ecosystem of progressive media consulting firms and strategists positioning themselves ahead of a wide-open 2028 presidential cycle.

One of those firms, Middle Seat, has quietly racked up a string of victories by working with what have turned out to be some of the highest-profile names to come out of this year’s primaries.

Democrats unveil sweeping proposal to combat Trump authoritarianism

Warning that the United States already has the “ingredients” of a “strongman state,” a Democratic senator is rolling out a sweeping legislative package designed to curb what he calls authoritarian abuses of power — with President Donald Trump squarely in mind.

The 10-part, 417-page proposal from Sen. Jeff Merkley, D-Ore. — shared first with MS NOW — touches on everything from immigration enforcement to whether a sitting president’s likeness can appear on U.S. currency.
