First US casualties come home in boxes

Post by ZoWie »

Three US troops did not survive the first day of trump's Forever War. The Dover Syndrome has returned.

In other news:

Early polls show historically low support for trump's war. It is somewhere in the region of 20%, give or take experimental error.

Trump is hysterically trying to rig this year's election, in order to pre-empt what will otherwise be a historic Republican debacle in the Congress.

Most responses online to trump's war run in the Wag the Dog vein. For those who did not see Wag the Dog, it was a very funny movie starring Dustin Hoffman and Robert DeNiro, concerning a president who successfully ginned up a fake war to distract from a sex scandal. The only difference this time is that the president has successfully ginned up a real war, with real bodies and real terrorist threats, possibly to distract from a sex scandal. Or maybe he's just stupid, and/or mentally ill.

There will be more.

The first casualties were friendly fire. That shows us how well this war has been thought out. Drumpf has never thought anything out in his life and he's not going to start now. Wait until Russia and China start smuggling arms into Iran.

Netanyahu can't believe his good luck. He was about to lose the Get Out Of Jail Free Card that Hamas was stupid enough to give him with its invasion two years ago, now he's all set again. If you voted for Trump, you voted for Netanyahu.

Mass demonstrations have already started. As we have seen many times now, these will have no effect whatsoever on the war plans, but they will serve to show that there is still an opposition. Ideally there will be a million-person march on DC this summer.

Answer Coalition, a rather nasty group of hard core old-left Ramsey Clark types, has hit the ground running. They must have had a storage room full of signs from last time, because they couldn't have printed them this fast. There used to be independent peace coalitions that better represented the US political reality, but those are long gone. Presumably, we will once again lock the barn door after the oligarchs have already made off with the horse, and start new ones.

Hegseth is a disease. His only political experience is as a Fox commentator. He has iron crosses tattooed all over his body. He drinks too much. I can't think of a worse SECDEF.

The Nooz will of course keep calling it the War Department, but I know of no real name change beyond the Republican rhetoric machine. Far as I know, it's another Gulf of America.

I see no evidence to contradict the assertion that we are screwed glued and tattooed.

I went around the net looking for any surviving independent peace coalitions. The pickings were rather slim, especially in LA. I've already mentioned the ANSWER Coalition, which is far from independent, being run by some pretty repellent hard core ideologues. CodePINK is still extant, and still stirring up trouble for people who deserve it, but for reasons I cannot and will not divulge, it is not what it used to be.

The real go-to peace group in LA was the Coalition for World Peace (CFWP, sometimes erroneously abbreviated CWP). It was started by a rather elderly group of old-line pacifists, but it attracted an energetic younger crowd for a time. That time appears to be over. The original mentors are long dead, and I guess everyone else had lives to get on with.

Nobody really expected drumpf to start a Middle East war. It was the one redeeming feature he ever had. We let ourselves get blindsided, and now also one has to step very lightly to avoid accusations of anti-Semitism.

Gloom.
