Thanks rain. It is what it is.

Once in hospice most costs are covered. It's between regular medicare needs and hospice that there's a dead zone that doesn't cover needs. example: before hospice, if you jump through the right hoops, medicare will help cover costs for wheelchairs and scooters for mobility outside the home. But a wheel chair ramp out of the house? Fuck no. It's attached to the home and considered a "home improvement." In what world does that make sense? So, we bought one.

Another example: The further along you get the more hospital stays there are. That's where the 3 day rule comes in. If the stay is 3 nights it qualifies you for in home help. Nurses, PT, OT, and handicap aids. Stay 2 nights and you are on your own whether you need help or not. It's why any decent doctor will "code" it right to keep you for a 3rd night. So remember, if they want to discharge you before 3 days you have to make up all kinds of problems which will trigger more tests to assure a 3rd night and qualify you for in home help.

As far as once in hospice, the care givers get just as frustrated with the chaotic rules as we do. The care they give though? I've never met such kind and caring people. It's one thing to go through the hell of end of life care once or twice. They do it every day. It takes a big heart to do something like that.

2/20/2025 R.I.P. Mom.

There's something to be said about Hospice and the end of life Comfort Pack/Kit they provide.

I hope it's the very last Hospice comfort pack i ever have to witness. Two is enough for one life time.

How the Hospice people do it everyday i just can't wrap my mind around. It takes a special person to have that kind of empathy.

My wife does the books but as far as i know so far.... in the money department...Nothing. Not even the Comfort Pack.

How Hospice's future is paid for is recently another thing.

btw...Palliative care is a bit better than it used to be but still the same. It's gotten a bit better with it's introduction into Hospice. Still not much leeway there..

There's a few sayings.

Life's a bitch and then ya die.

There's another one about paying taxes and then ya die.

I'm sure there's more.

At this stage i try to better to describe it as, "Life is a series of inconsistencies, and then ya tip over".

Going off Bradman's post is this I heard about 40 years ago.

There are only one thing in life to worry about.

If you're well or ill. If you're well, there's nothing to worry about. If you're ill, there's only one thing to worry about; it you live or die.

If you live, there's nothing to worry about. If you die, only one thing to worry about; if you go to Heaven or Hell.

If you go to Heaven, there's nothing to worry about. If you go to Hell, there's nothing to worry about because you'll be to busy greeting old friend to worry about anything.

Interesting about Sturgis. That's the kind of thing that we want to see. It indicates that some people outside the political junkie loop have either gotten sick of it all, or just lapsed back into apathy. Both of those help us.

For the most part we missed the heat and rain this year. It was great.

Sturgis is no place to fuck around on a bike. We left yesterday with a Rally Tally of 86 accidents and 4 fatalities.
We try to avoid all that by riding very early and taking the afternoon off chilling and swimming at the cabin when the crowds are the thickest. Then an evening ride to a town (Keystone) close to the cabin for dinner. We then finish it off at the cabin where the drinking and carrying on can really commence. :D

Didn't see one political tent. Not one Trump t-shirt. Not one sighting of the Trump tour bus that has been there for years. Ya know, thinking back i don't even remember seeing anyone sporting a MAGA hat. Even the tension from the last couple years was gone. It was all about the rally and having fun. It was a nice break.

We made it to Wounded Knee a couple years ago. The one stop we do make is the Crazy Horse monument. They've now carved the hand and started on the horse he will be sitting on. ....

At twenty times the size of Rushmore that finger is a nice poke in the eye.
As a history center it's far better than Mt. Rushmore. i always like catching a dance demonstration and the history behind it. This year it was the Hoop Dance...

The hoops put together in a ball are held secure with one hoop. That hoop is the great creator. Remove it and the world comes apart into a pile of single hoops.

we used to do the Nemo Bluegrass Festival which went on about the same dates as sturgis so we didnt have
to deal with sturgis much at all.

It was a nice summer vacation. i put away the computer/phone and did away with everything for awhile. Did nothing but ride, socialized at my favorite watering holes, attended grandkids/family activities, and basically got away from the bs for awhile. It was a much needed break. Refreshing it was.
