He was a fixture at the LA peace rallies, when there were any. Now it's just identity groups having at each other. The result makes normal discourse impossible, and stifles anything resembling honest debate. Mostly, there's a nervous silence where there used to be a real dialog.

Decent normal conversation is appropriate 99% of the time, but at some point there has to be some kind of visible public direct response to all the crap coming from the right. They own the debate now and we're losing our freedom. History really is a dialectical process, and we need to get a real dialectic going here.

The first step is better use of the net, because the net is still the only resource that can't simply be bought off by the worst crooks in the influential billionaire class. This small cabal has declared war on the rest of the planet, using carefully targeted agitprop from their bought-up means of communication to recruit foot soldiers while still exploiting them and taking their money.

The current debacle surrounding the newspaper endorsements is only peripheral to the election itself, but for people who follow this kind of thing, it also brings what we are up against into such sharp relief that only those in denial will be unable to see just what the underlying problem is.

Face to face meetings are the gold standard right now, because no one with any brains trusts mass media, and the Internet seems to be mostly about affinity groups and (increasingly) targeted content supported by advertisers. There's no substitute for meeting people and talking to them without intent to persuade them. People in general are so awash in BS that they value real interaction, in person or by more controlled meetings like the ones that use Zoom.

no one answer phones anymore...by the time they get back to you youre in the grocery story
library etc so it takes 3 weeks for call backs playing tag and Maybe get a person on telly.

this is ineffective and for the citizen: tek "improvement" bullshit" is crumbling this country.

on the answering end...if youre a professional they answer.

it is so refreshing to Speak with humans, to talk even briefly at grocery...to speak have chats
conversations, share thots. use words.

Yes, we have essentially shitcanned voice communication unless people are in earshot, and even then it's usually to say you're pissed about something. This is a major loss.

We've pretty much stopped answering the voice line. 99 out of 100 calls are robots telling us that the police are on their way and we must call some different robot in Bulgaria to avoid serious criminal charges.

I suspect this election would be a lot less scary if we could talk to people instead of interacting with fake personas maintained by the switching of binary states in odd little pieces of silicon. As a communication junkie from age 9 on, I loved this when it started, but like everything else, people are people and we all OD'd.

We don't even really know where our information is coming from. Someone says they're someone but there's no proof they aren't no one, or worse, some bought and paid for company in Russia.

For all you know, I'm a robot from Forbidden Planet.

Sounds like the big hack where several million credit records turned up on the dark web. They hacked one of the major credit bureaus. Along with other information, they got just about everyone's social security number, and you can't change those. I don't know why there wasn't a bigger outcry, so I guess people have decided to just put up with it. It doesn't make the future look very good.

Some of the filthy rich got that way selling all your secret information. Your cell phone tracks your every move, really, literally. It has as much instrumentation as many spacecraft. The legal way of doing it is not entirely different from the illegal way. When it looks like a business, and money changes hands for corporations, it often gets passed off as that good old American Way.
