Yeah the Mets and Dodgers are both in. Texts are flying between LA and NYC. Gave me a chance to fine-tune my new message app.

I didn't bet on the Dodgers, and last night you saw why. Same old same old. They always run up a great record in the regular season, then the playoffs come and they get embarrassed... again...

Three years straight now. Last time they won a World Series, the games were all in a covid-quarantined arena in Texas or some such place. There hasn't been one in LA in longer than I can remember. I think I might have been an undergrad at UCLA, but it's all lost in the proverbial sands of time.

What's for sure is there needs to be a wave of mass firings in the pitcher training staff.

Also I don't condone the actions of fans in the stands last night.

Nope. Not good.

What's for sure is that there is a lot of bad blood between the Dodgers and Padres. I don't know the reasons for this, but my guesses are (1) proximity: San Diego is only a few hours drive from LA; and (2) old-boss resentment: several former Dodgers who got traded are now playing for San Diego.

Padres manager Mike Shildt, Fernando Ttis, and Jurickson Profar have made public statements to Padres fans not to engage in the same behavior. They're reminding the fans with the line from [Anchor Man: The Legend of Ron Burgundy[/i] line "You stay classy, San Diego."

Machado used to play for the Dodgers and apparently he was a fan favorite of theirs until he signed with the Padres. Dave Roberts played with and coached the Padres plus he's from Vista in San Diego County.

Machado threw a ball (one not in play) right at one of the Dodgers. Both teams were out of line at the last game. This really is the new rivalry. No one cares about the Giants, they suck.

There's a lot of really nasty stuff starting to bubble up. People are genuinely pissed. Kind of creepy. Starts to feel like the Middle East.

There's still some resentment from the former Dodgers who got traded, and of course the fans on both sides have taken their inspiration from everything on the Nooz and declared war. People in LA are especially upset that San Diego won't sell tickets out of market. There's a very tense situation here and I wouldn't be caught dead at any of these games. The parking lot is going to be more dangerous than the field.

Personally, I save my rage for whoever in the Dodgers' training staff got every single starting pitcher hurt.

I don't know if Machado intended to throw the ball at Roberts or not. From reading what Machado said after the Padres warmed up he threw the ball, like he always does, to the dugout along the third baseline.

That could be. The national TV broadcasters don't know details like local ones would.

It hardly matters, because the Dodgers' shortage of healthy starting pitchers continues. In fact, I believe tonight is going to be all bullpen.

I have no doubt Dave Roberts will use every arm in his bullpen to win tonight because they're on the verge of elimination. Whenever you have a five game series and one team has a 2-1 lead the team with one win will be going all-out to win. The Mets have a 2-1 lead on the Brewers so the Brewers will be going all-out to win.

Either way, it'll be a good game tonight.

We know a lot of Mets fans, and I do hope that they can finally get out of the disappointment cycle. The Dodgers might do better than I expect them to do, but they can't throw the bullpen at the other side in every game and they stupidly got all their starters hurt.

Worst case scenario, the Dodgers are playing the Mets in the NLCS. Texts have been flying thick and fast around here. Talk about divided loyalties.

Congratulations to the Dodgers beating my Padres. Other than allowing the two home runs it was basically a pitchers dual.

I liked what Manny Machado told Yu Darvish, the Padres starting pitcher. He told him it wasn't Yu's fault but the team's fault for not giving him run support.

I forgot to bring this up congrats to the Dodgers beating the Mets they were the better team but their offense really took a hit with Shohei Ohtani's slide to 2nd Base if that arm injury is severe it could take up to 16 weeks to recover get well soon Shohei.

Thanks.

This was about the worst Dodger team in several years. Like the pundits say, it was good management that put them over the top. They were patching lineups together all season.

It's a remarkable achievement. Give them a raise.

All this says something good about people. Sports at their best.

I only wish it were a sweep. But, the Yankees losing at home and blowing a 5 run lead is a nice consultation prize.

Notice 3 of the teams with the highest payroll were among the final 4 teams.

The small and mid market teams are nothing more than the new high minors.
Cleveland
Kansas City
Detroit
All good young teams developing players for the 6 to 8 big market teams.
