on the topic of MLK, please cite the reference where paul praises MLK.

Everybody knows in my district that I didn't write them and I don't speak like that... and I've been reelected time and time again and everyone knows I don't participate in that kind of language. The point is, when you bring this question up, you're really saying 'you're a racist, or are you a racist?' The answer is no, I'm not a racist. As a matter of fact, Rosa Parks is one of my heroes, Martin Luther King is a hero, because they practiced the libertarian principle of civil disobedience and nonviolence. Libertarians are incapable of being a racist because racism is a collectivist idea: you see people in groups. A civil libertarian as myself sees everyone as an important individual.

I don't see a case to be made that racism is mental illness. For example, my father was racist for the first part of his life - it's how he was brought up.

Totally agree. It's a learned behavior. It can be unlearned. This movie is a good example.

Quote:
StormFront is basically Ron Paul's base. They get the people out to the straw polls for him, and they put the money into his "money-bombs".

I went there the other night. It's changed a bit. I saw a lot of posts about the members not hating blacks and Jews, but wanting to live separate from them. They even have a section where guests can ask questions. Pretty informative.

Stormfront is a white supremacist website, pure and simple. They have 234 THOUSAND members.

It is a hate site.

thanks, that is pretty definitive, isn't it.

paul rejects racism.

paul rejects the false accusation that he is a racist.

paul praises both parks and king for their libertarian principles and nonviolent civil disobedience.

it is a recent statement as well. good to see, thanks.

I know that, Gou.

So what was your point? "Now with "a few members that DON'T want to kill all blacks and jews"?

My post contained 2 points. 1 you ignored. The other was to say that Stormfront has changed it's policies since the last time I was there.

It's policies are still what they always were. Racism and hatred. No change.

A step in the right direction would be to denounce racism and hatred.

That would be a giant leap in the right direction.

It's the only step/leap that matters.

Nope, but I have no respect for them or their hateful agenda and belief system.

Me either. Like I said earlier, racism is learned, it can be unlearned. Clearly screaming "Ron Paul is a racist!" at the top of your lungs does no good whatsoever.

You should be educating people on why it is wrong to have racist views. That would also be telling the truth.

i will intervene and say two things here.

first, it is absurd to have to ask for consideration of why it is wrong to have racist views. such a demand is unreasonable, and i have strongly encouraged each poster who steps out of the zone of being reasonable to not do so. if you need a why for such things in a diverse society dedicated to equality and liberty, you are not reasonable or you do not understand that society sufficiently to be granted standing to ask such questions.

the second point is that you are both trailing into a dead end abstraction whereas i would prefer as the OP to see the topic of paul remain the focus.

Sounds good, except his actions say otherwise. Like when he wrote in his newsletter:

"Boy, it sure burns me to have a national holiday for Martin Luther King. I voted against this outrage time and time again as a Congressman. What an infamy that Ronald Reagan approved it! We can thank him for our annual Hate Whitey Day."

And, how much of a hero can Rosa Parks be, if he voted against her receiving a Congressional Medal of Honor?

I'd say his statement is definitive of one thing: Ron Paul is a liar.

mrs tritumi is a bit slow as we depart for a korean lunch at a cheapo student hangout so time for one more.

what can we say?

we can say that paul had one view in 1992 and another in 2008.

we can say, as i did in my benchmark discussion that you have yet to honestly cite in any post, that paul opened himself to a charge of racism with these comments.

we can say that within a 16 year period he changed his view.

i say that it is a good thing he has changed his views. he sounded like a poorly educated, knee jerking hick, assuming it was him who wrote the words cited from the 1992 newsletter.

regarding parks, thanks for the citation. it was truly inspiring. we learned that paul has voted consistently against awarding that medal to not only parks but also to:

Ronald Reagan
Tony Blair
Dalai Lama
Mother Teresa
the Pope

paul refuses to spend money wastefully. but he goes further. from your cite:

However, Paul has not just voted against spending taxpayer money for the medal - he has proposed a workable alternative. Instead of shelling out $30,000 of taxpayers' money, Paul proposed that each member of Congress ought to pay $100 out of his or her own pocket. This way, the money for the medal would be raised and each member of Congress would be contributing to the cause that he or she values so much. He also stressed his respect for Parks, saying that she was a courageous woman who committed herself to the cause of freedom and against an overbearing government that is unanswerable to the people it serves.

is that not in itself a brave stance? i say bravo, mr paul for your calling congress to take personal responsibility for unnecessary spending.

no medal for ronald reagan!?!?

paul is not afraid to take an unpopular, brave and heroic stance for a gop presidential candidate is it not!

thanks again for this link that strongly supports the view of paul as a man of the people who is for the people.
