Re: F1: Nothing's so bad that it can't get even worse
One month has passed. The races in the Middle East didn't happen, and that was probably a good thing given that drumpf's 5-week war will probably last indefinitely. They did manage to get the race in Miami to go forward, sort of. Right before it, they changed the engine rules that everyone had been ...

Re: The Donald Trump is Batcrap Crazy and The Leader of the GOP Thread
This election is going to be quite the spectacle. I suspect somewhere there will be something very unpleasant.

Re: Labor/Economics
That does sound like our local Costco. They bought the supermarket next door and demolished it to make more parking. The parking lot is enormous, and they still fill it up. The gas line does go out into the street, causing a perpetual traffic mess, but yes, they have three or four lanes. I suspect t...

Next thing drumpf will he needs to build the ballroom so he can give all his right wing refugees a proper formal dress ball.

Re: Labor/Economics
I can't get on naval bases but the local Costco is becoming more attractive by the day. It usually had about a half hour wait in line for gas in happier times, so now I can only imagine the chaos. It behooves Americans to get their heads out of their butts and start actually thinking about who they ...

Well, it's happened. Earthcam has something like 15 webcams in New York, but they've been failing one by one, and they never get fixed. Columbus Circle has been down for quite a few months now, and they've been dropping one at a time ever since. Herald Square went poof about a month ago, and a coupl...

Solar activity is winding down after hitting the peak a year or two ago, but there are still surprises. Don't put away those tinfoil hats yet.

No, John, we know exactly what you do. Your mandate was handed you by the neoconservative aristocracy that got you picked for your lifetime-tenure jobs in the first place. We are only too aware that this mandate was to put US jurisprudence right back to how it had been before that nasty civil rights...

There needs to be more clarity in the FCC's mandate. When communication only went by airwaves and voice phone lines, it was simpler. Times change, and with a bazillion new ways to communicate, the Commission's general level of competence is way behind the times.

You ain't seen nothing yet. Nooz is predicting another gas shortage like the one that upended American politics after the first wave of revolutions in the Middle East. This time the Republicans will take the blame. It's already started in SoCal. Yes, I know, I don't need to drive a fancy sports car ...

Sports on the ESPN app. Sports on the MLB app. Sports on the Apple TV app. Everything to the highest bidder.
How long before TV sports cost the average family as much as housing and food?
And to think that not all that long ago, it was all there for free.

The governor's election in California is becoming an epic. No one's quite sure who's going to win. Swalwell had the inside track until he got busted for horny sex stuff, now he's withdrawn, but too late to take him off the ballot. There are something like 20 candidates on the ballot. Several have ma...

Wasn't so bad. The places that are usually a mess were fine. One place that is never a mess was stopped dead, reason unknown. LA freeways work in mysterious ways.

Re: AI causing massive layoffs by the oligarchy
Cyber criminals gave hacking a bad name. Originally, it was just geekspeak for the process of writing and debugging early programs by hand in languages like Turbo Pascal, C, and sometimes the dreaded Fortran. When a hacker went on one of the 24/7 runs typical at the time, you understood as best you ...

That's just the famous ones. It really is quite the who's who of the entertainment biz. They know how to exploit their history. They were having a mural of Marilyn Monroe painted on a wall near the pool when we were there. They know how to advertise their past. My favorite Del movie is the Stunt Man...

Re: SAG-AFTRA Reaches Tentative Deal on Studio Contract
With mergers reducing the number of companies to work for, production fleeing LA, famous studios being bought up and consolidated, and local landmarks changing owners on a daily basis, I don't think very many people were in the mood for a strike this time. It's still ironic that the only strike righ...

I never did see a grunion run, but when surfing I'd often see them swimming around in the water. They do exist, and they do come onshore to spawn in the sand, and indeed you are only allowed to catch them with your bare hands. The Hotel Del Coronado finally restored their huge wooden building that d...

Tomorrow I'll be in the car going back to LA, so we'll pretend it's Sunday in Times Square. Today is World Peace and Harmony Day. There is a temporary portable stage, with a very impressive backdrop, where someone's preaching to about 100 seated people. There are eight booths where you can spend you...

It's not Sunday, but I couldn't pass this one up. It's International Zumba (r) Day. A group on the usual portable stage they set up is leading several hundred people in some kind of aerobic dancing routine that I'd never heard of.

So far most of the discussion coming out of the fracas at the WHCD concerns statements made by trump and his people about how this is why taxpayers must pay for a more secure ballroom at the White House. It sure didn't take long for this very serious incident to degenerate into more of the same old ...

Didn't know that. Did know that the guy had become something of a corporation, and that he had more money than he'd have ever made working in one of those large buildings adjoining the square. Not to mention that I admired his durability, walking around Times Square in his shorts in winter, when eve...

He understands that impeachment is currently impossible even if the Democrats win back the House. It'll never get 2/3 in the Senate. The only crime/misdemeanor they can prove beyond all doubt is the Epstein thing, and that was before he took office. All bets are off, though, if trump becomes too muc...

Sunday in Times Square
First of a weekly series: This week it's Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day. It was on the 24th but Times Square is having it today. Right now a stage full of dancers is entertaining about 25 people scattered about seating for several hundred. Turkey never did apologize for that particular atrocity, ...

He's already started, as have the Republicans in Congress and most state houses. They're proposing all kinds of bills to reduce turnout and discourage early or mail voting. I get a definite idea that they're scared.
